Priced outta the game

I was at a Yankee game the last year of the old stadium beers were 8.50 a guy in the row in front of us was with his two sons he got three beers and paid with a $50. Two innings later he ordered three more and pulled his change out of his pocket looked at it and figured he did not have enough so had to get some money from one of his sons. A $50 will not buy a six pack! Wow! I am sure with the new stadium the prices went up.
Being from Boston all 4 pro team ticket prices are just ridiculous,
and even just try and buy a ticket since the Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins have won recent Championships
............ Fugedaboudit !!!!

Gone are the days when it was a relaxing and inexpensive day out.

I really feel sorry for the young family man who has a kid or two and wants to take his family to a pro sporting event,
............... just the parking cost alone is more than I once paid for two tickets.

We went to the new Yankee Stadium last year for a game. Great time we had. We got a beer because that's what you do at a ballgame. It was expensive. Might have been $9.50 each. The people sitting 3 rows in front of us drank a lot of beers. Tickets were $50 each. You don't have to eat overpriced food and beverage at the game.
Paying on the stadium bonds, and the salary for players, all the stadium workers wages it kinda sucks. The bottom line for the owners is that it is a very expensive product to bring out for the fans. The return on investment is not as great as one might think.

Have been to the Super Bowl, Stanley Cup finals and many NFL regular season games. That was quite a few years back. Way too expensive nowdays to go to any of them. I will just watch at home.

Take the family to a minor league baseball game in a community near you this summer or small college/high school football game this fall. Then watch the MLB and NFL on TV.

Chilcoot: NFL stadiums are television studios. Major league comment dude! Reps 4 u.
Used to split a Jet pkg with my friend who had owned the seats since the Jets played at Shea Stadium. The last year of the Meadowlands I paid $60 per ticker to sit on the lower level on the 20 yard line. We did not buy the the same seats due to the $10k per seat licensing fee. We opted for the no fee upper deck @ $125 per tkt. It worked out to $250 for the tickets, $30 to park the car a half mile from the stadium and $15 in tolls. The old stadium had different escalators to each level, which dispersed the crowd; the new stadium escalators now take people to all levels - very slow. It took about 45 minutes to get from the parking lot to my seats. The 19 mile drive home after the game averaged over an hour. We gave up the seats after 1 year. The jets are still trying to sell these licenses.

Adding fuel to the issue was having to pay full price for 2 preseason games, 2-3 night games which ended after midnight (having to go to work the next day) and 4:15 starts in November & December (very cold) & having to sit thru rain and snow.

The Yankees have field level seats (surrounded by a concrete barrier) that cost over $2k per seat. They are frequently empty. The Mets who have one of the nicest stadiums in baseball have to resort to multiple ticket promotions to get to 30,000 attendees

Greek, very true catching a semi-pro can be a great time w/o blowing the entire wad. We have a minor league team that plays literally 10 minutes down the road from us, can go for a great afternoon or evening for a benji and that's not skimping(3 of us) on anything. I do kinda find it amazing(?) that stadiums do sell out as much as they do, especially in this economy.
Personally when it comes to watching pro football, agree with Blades statement of just catching the game on the tube.

Dude, your best bet is minor league baseball. Waay cheaper tickets IF your team hasn't been sold out for the last x number of years. (we hold the record)
This is kinda dumb. The reason is it in no way searches for the less expensive seats.

For instance in Los Angeles, you can get a 4 pack of tickets, hot dogs, and soda for $72 or $80 depending on seats.

You can also go on stub hub and get nosebleeds for lesser demand games for $5 a ticket. Pretty good seats for those lesser demand games(which is most games) can be had for around $15. Of course loge and field level seats between the bases are gonna cost more. But were talking family fun day here, right? Parking is $8 or $10, I forget. If you are willing to walk and get there an hour before game time, there is street parking available right outside Dodger Stadium by the LAPD police academy.

The Angels are similarly priced...a bit more expensive, but they often have family centric promotions. $8 parking.

Clippers and Kings on stub hub for low demand games in the nosebleeds are also under $10 a ticket. Lots within a 4-5 block walk of Staples Center are as little as $5-6 for parking. Plenty of very good restaurants between those lots and Staples, so no need to even eat at Staples.

So bottom line is that a family of four can have a night out at any of these sporting events, including dinner, for under $100. If they want to do it on the real cheap, they can go see a game for $20 plus whatever snack for the kids.
