A Problem

I was recently informed that we are not going to Vegas at all this year. I don't know if I can make it a whole year with out going to Vegas. We have been going once or twice a year for the past 22 years.

My wife has a terminal health condition that limits her ability to travel. Next April she will be turning the big 60 and she wants to go to Vegas for her birthday. Here is the problem, much of my thoughts have always been about planning and going to Vegas. What can I do to ease the pain of not going to my favorite place?

Very sorry to hear of your wife's medical condition

I think I would concentrate on her illness and spend the year doing what she wants.

Don't be selfish.

I think you miss the point. Planning the Vegas trip is what helps to keep some people optimistic helps them keep their head up and keep going. Taking that away can make someone depressed as they don't have that future fun time to look forward to and plan. My wife likes to have something on the horizon to look forward to. It gives her something to think about other than the start reality that our lives on earth are fleeting.

We are going in April to Vegas and I have been planning since early November. Sourcing restaurants, getting my

coupon books to put my post it notes on, checking on car prices each and every day. When I first started

sourcing the car the prices were outragious and still pretty high especial Alamo who I usually book with. Not

this time so far - Dollar - Deal of the Day - in 2 weeks I'm down another $21.00 for the week. Hopefully

will keep going down as I check. Even though you won't be going this year - start checking out things now

and make lists. Discuss them with your wife and find out what she wants and keep one list for her favourites.

Good luck with her health problem.

Diane
So sorry about your wife's illness. All the best to her.

It's good that she is looking forward to her 60th next April. If that is realistic, hey, a year goes by quickly. The older we get...time is a speed train!

Get a big glass jar. Every week or so put in some Vegas vacation dollars you would spend on your two trips this year...watch the money grow for that 60th. You'll have your 2014 trip paid for! (That was a stop smoking strategy my husband used. Every day he put in what he would have spent on Cigs. Very effective, watching that jar fill up with money to be spent later.)

Agree with Diane. Hey, 2013 is already part gone. Print out 2013 and 2014 calendars. Mark your April 2014 Vegas vacation dates. Start tracking air fares, hotels, shows. When you read something of note happening (an implosion, a new show, show closing, any crazy happening), write it on the calendars, like a diary you can look back on. Reading LVA forums, TRs etc. makes me feel like I'm there.

Lastly, Las Vegas will still be there when you are ready!
Sorry to hear that! Are you close to any other casino you guys can go to? I know it's not the same as vegas but it's something!
Maybe have a casino in your area that you could drive to?

Any of those "Casino Night" fund raisers in your neck of the woods.

Take care of her
Thread is begging for some BAGIANT jokes.

My best to you and Mrs. Jasper.

If she is not able to travel to Vegas, is there somewhere special she'd like to go closer to home? Perhaps a local casino with a quality hotel. Perhaps you could arrange to have flowers waiting for her in your room.
