Bags I agree. Call me cheap, tight or just an A Hole but I feel there is a limit to tipping ect. When I get a hand pay on a Royal I am not going to tip $400.00 to somebody who had nothing to do with whether my experience was positive or not. They get $40.00 maybe. What next, when I withdraw 5K to go gambling I tip the bank teller $500.00 for counting out my money.

The cab driver did the right thing and I bet getting 11K more than made his day, plus we don't know the circumstances of the 300K. That might not even be the poker players money. It might be "backers" money and not his to give away. If he had offered a reward and reneged that would be a different story.

One time my wife was over paid $900.00 at the bank and she gave the money back. Thank you was more than enough for doing the right thing.

Just my 2 cents.
I stand by my words. If someone told me I would get back $270,000 of $300,000 or I would get $0, I would gladly give them the $30,000 for the remaining $270,000. I would consider $10,000 an insult, and it is.

I would love to be insulted with 10K for doing the right thing. Returning that money would be something I would do for free, just like the cabbie did. The fact that I received 10K for doing the right thing would be icing on the cake. I personally feel the fact that anyone would feel they are deserving of $30,000 for being honest says a lot of what is wrong with society today.

The choice wasn't all or nothing or $270,000 vs $300,000. The poker player already had all of the money returned. As stated earlier if he said he would give a 10% finder fee that would be a different story.
I see and do understand everyone else's points - but if it had of been my $300,000 that I foolishly left in a cab, I would have gladly given the taxi driver a 10% reward of $30,000. It would have been worth it to me.

Doctor, see how much better your last post reads compared to previous post? There is hope you can be house trained.

friedmush, although the good doctor and myself are often 180 degrees apart it has always remained civil. I respect his right to his opinion and he, so far has respected mine.

I've been kinda following those, well when I see headline about it anyway. I think that's a very cool thing, all the super generous over tipping to random workers. If I won the lottery or came into a ton of money, I would definitely do something like this. I beleive I might carry around bunches of gift cardds to hand out randomly as well.
