R.I.P. Jackie Gaughan

Jackie Gaughan

This was posted on Vegas Chatter. The link they shared goes to Hall of Fame site and I don't see his death mentioned. The Vegas Chatter facebook post says-

Las Vegas gaming pioneer Jackie Gaughan has reportedly passed away at the age of 93. Gaughan was, perhaps, best known as the owner of downtown's El Cortez and continued to live there even after selling it in 2008. Long-time Vegas visitors and residents will likely also remember when the Plaza was once Jackie Gaughan's Plaza. His storied career touched many lives in this town. Our condolences go out to all who loved him.
Sad to hear. Man did a lot for Vegas.

Sad as well.....I would have thought the El Cortez could have waited to close their Poker Room until he was gone......
Dang, sorry to see. I mentioned a bit ago that I saw Jackie in January and that he did not look well.

Ah well, what a life!

I seen him many times at the El Cortez.

A true legend !
Very sad day. I thought something may have been wrong when I did not see him when I visited the El Cortez a few weeks ago.

Always very nice and friendly when I saw him.
RIP... sad day downtown.
One of the last legends of old Las Vegas has died.
John "Jackie" Gaughan once owned as much as a third of the property in downtown Las Vegas, and he lived out his last years in the penthouse of the smoky, historic El Cortez casino.
He died Wednesday in hospice care at 93 . . . . .

The El Cortez Hotel and Casino - "Las Vegas Like It Used To Be" remains DonDiego's favorite casino ever.
RIP Played poker with this gentleman more than a few times
I waved at him at the Flame Steakhouse in ElCo...I left it at that as I did not want to interupt his dinner. Very nice man.

I wonder what will become of the Penthouse at El-Cortez now?
