RENO, ever been there?

I just received an offer for airfare, hotel & transfers in Reno at Harrah's.
I was wondering if anyone has been there & their opinions.

Thanks

Friend of mine got that same offer. He took it. Then he rented a car and drove to Vegas. He said Reno is bleak.
Reno's not bleak. It's actually pretty cool, but it's definitely nothing like Las Vegas.

Very limited shows, and most casinos have shrunk over the past 20 years as Northern Californians diverted to new, closer Indian properties.

The grandest casinos (Peppermill and Atlantis) are 1-2 miles south of Harrah's and the downtown core and are very good. Plus, nearby Lake Tahoe is one of the nicest places in the country.

I'd drive to Lake Tahoe. The 9 hour drive to Vegas is boring.

It didn't take him 9 hours.

How long?

Granted I drove with relatives who needed to stop every 2-3 hours and there were road construction delays.
He said he drove about 100 the whole way and didn't stop. He can be a little manic at times.

LOL . .

the posted speed limits on that road tend to be 70 or 25. I probably drove 80 in the 70 zones.

The drive from Reno to Las Vegas or vice versa does not have to be boring. Being old and eccentric, I rather enjoy the solitude and isolation of such road trips, although many do not share this viewpoint. Instead of taking 95 all the way, were I to make this drive again would instead take the much more scenic route down 395 to Big Pine, and then take 168 into Nevada to 95 and then south to LV. Adds perhaps an hour to the drive, but more pleasant and less tedious than the shorter direct route down 95. Other routes could be to cross back into Nevada using 120 at Mono Lake or 136/190 at Lone Pine.
The best part of Reno is that it is on the way to Tahoe. I stayed at Harrah's Reno and it is a dump!! Harrahs send all their old slot machines there to die. Had a buffet comp and it was awful!
Downtown can be sketchy, although the Peppermill and Atlantis are very nice.
