Rental Car advice for Vegas

My folks and I are heading to Vegas next week for 4 nights. We always rent a car as we like to go to a lot of offstrip places. Booked at $158 for that time period, economy class, but kept looking found some at $148 cancelled the other and booked the new lower price. Been looking and looking nothing changes..... UNTIL today.

Went and found an intermediate car thru Payless Car rental for $97.53.
Advantage has a similar deal for $104 today as well. I'll keep looking just in case of the long shot I find something cheaper.

Moral of the story find the lowest rate you can, book it, and KEEP LOOKING for lower rates, you can always cancel previous bookings.

PS. I suggest not paying now, just book the reservation as it is easier to cancel that way.
We use Dollar and I check the price 2 times a day since it changes all the time. Recent trip the price ,total, went from $290 to $142 for a week.
I go with whomever is cheapest. Pretty much have rented from all at one point or the other.
I also go with the best deal I can find and look daily for changes. One thing to mention - When there is only a slight difference between my choice and another, I don't change. I like EZ rent a car, so much less hassle at the booth. I have waited over an hour in line at Payless, and when we got to the desk we understood why - they salesmen are unreal - trying to sell you insurance, different coverage, adding things to the bill you did not want, etc. Really check out your paperwork before signing!! I know the price I was quoted, and that's the price I will agree to, no more.

I'd stay away from Payless!!! Daughter and son-in-law had terrible experience with them. Pay a little more and get a reputable car dealer.

Yes, renting today can change in minutes. Always cancel and rebook. Never can go wrong with Alamo!!
Check for coupon codes as well!!
I like National. As an Emerald club member you bypass the booth and go right to the car. You rent at the midsize rate and get a full size car & you can pick the car you want out of what is available in the aisle.
You followed the proper steps for rental car rates. Make a res and keep checking as they do change and sometimes drastically. I would add a couple of other factors in take in consideration.

Class of car. In this case you are reserving economy, but anything larger you should be sure you are comparing apples to apples. What one company considers a midsize may be a compact at another.

Level of service. Check out reviews to get an idea of what kind of service you can expect from a company new to you. I recently rented from Firefly for low rates. The half hour wait in line and the ten minute badgering for additional coverage was ridiculous. Next time I'll pay a bit more and go with Dollar and my Express res.

Good Luck!

Budget's "pay now" rates are always significantly cheaper than the "pay later" rates. I believe thats an attempt to dissuade the rebooking behavior most of us on this board have mastered. The cheapest rate I've ever got on a weekly compact rental (before taxes and fees) was $85. That was during the recession.

Last couple years I've been spending closer to $115. If the "buy now" gets near there I'd tempted to pull the trigger.
I used the pay now feature a few years ago with Alamo, if I remember correctly. I did since the regular rate was very good and the pay now rate was that much better. This is the only circumstance that I would use it. Only if the rate was just that good. Most times that won't be the case. Most often you'll be better off booking and rebooking. Always keep in mind who is providing that low rate.

Good Luck!
