Revenge of the Tea Party: Eric Cantor defeated in a surprise upset

Quote

Cantor, the second-most powerful House leader, is the highest-ranking Republican to lose renomination to a Tea Party challenger since the movement rose to prominence in 2010. A sitting majority leader has not lost since 1899, according to CQ/Roll Call, a Washington publication.

Quote

Cantor, 51, was first elected to Congress in 2001 and became the majority leader in 2011. He is the only Jewish Republican in the U.S. House. Long heralded as a rising GOP star, Cantor was widely viewed as the likeliest contender to become the next House speaker.

It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.

I just saw him. I went to visit a friend down in Ashland Va. for the strawberry faire and saw Cantor strolling around with is entourage of security and whoevers, they were all wearing red Cantor t-shirts. I was kinda surprised there wasn't more security around him, a state cop and couple other guys was all. Anyway, it was hotter n he!!, I found my friends and their booths, ate some Q and had a good time.
He wasn't conservative enough.
He compromised too much........ Eric Cantor did........ The guy who led the charge to shut down the government over Obamacare.... Thats the consensus in his district.

Can we now stop pretending the hyper-partisan malaise in Washington has both parties to blame?

Hopefully this anti-incumbent sentiment will sweep through both parties. Throw all the bums out.
I believe that the intelligent public has spoken. Hopefully this trend will continue all the way to the White House.

"intelligent public" voting in another tea partier because Cantor wasn't conservative enough for them. Thanks for the morning laugh, doc!
Cantor lost because he wasn't Neanderthal enough on the issue of immigration reform.

The Republican Party in California is pretty much non-existent because of the anti-Mexican Proposition 187 and its aftermath. Previously, the conservative Catholic Mexicans used to vote for the GOP in substantial numbers - but not any more. The Asian population in the US is growing at a faster rate than the Hispanics, and they are equally offended by the Republicans.

And in six or eight years, anti-immigrant politicians will have a hard time getting elected...in Texas! I can't wait.

As I stated,"I believe that the intelligent public has spoken"- I knew you would not get it, Gourdhead.

Oh, I definitely am not disputing your statement. And we all get it. Go ahead and keep believing your pipe dreams, especially the one about tea party folks as part of the "intelligent public."
