Assuming the person meets the definition of professional gambler, and the gambling (or gambling related) trip meets the definition of travel away from home, the cost of meals (with a business purpose) is 50% deductible. In the past, there was an issue about whether this deduction could exceed net wins.
Gambling addiction is recognized as a mental illness. However, it is extremely unlikely that Songboy Rob has any professional status that would lend credibility to his diagnoses.
