Sad story

15 year old boy walking along Charleston was robbed of his ipad by 2 thugs. The kid wouldn't let go of the ipad, was dragged to the SUV and eventually run over and killed when it was pulled from him. Ironically 2-3 days prior to this incident there was an article in the RJ or Sun about Clark County buying 7000 ipads for lower income schools to loan out to students. Not surprisingly many are being reported as stolen. Fortunately for the school district this kid's father purchased the ipad for him. Hopefully they will rethink their policy and keep ipads at school in the future. Otherwise, it will be a matter of time before something similar happens again. On a side note, the white thug was a local baseball star from what I've read.

This story reminds me of the time when thugs were robbing and killing youngsters for Air Jordan shoes. Criminals and murderers such as these have no legal rights as far as I am concerned. Just how much longer will society allow these cretins to get away with these crimes? There should be special laws and punishments in place for these monsters.
My local poker room had put a charging station in the room for players to charge cell phones and devices while playing. It is no longer there, and lasted less than a month or so. Several iPhones, tablets, and computers were stolen. From the poker room.

What chance does someone on the street with a device have?

Yep the story is here

I know the father realizes too late what a dumb idea it was to let his child carry it outside the house. I feel the father's pain, but I don't expect this will be the last of his poor parenting decisions. The 15 year old was the oldest of his 10 children.

prepare the "wood chipper"!

More serious side, Criminals are being more "brazen" all the time. The court system is flooded as well as police departments. To kill someone over something as meaningless as an electronic device is, just really sad.
Meanwhile, about a dozen kids a year are killed playing football, and people say "shit happens." And I'll bet more people are killed this year by vending machines than by iPad robbers. Not to mention the children killed by gun and swimming pool accidents. But yeah, lets change common behavior and criticize parenting skills over this one incident.

Young people will continue to go outside with valuables such as bicycles, skateboards, phones, cars, trucks, and yes, iPads. But out of irrational fear, some parents will keep their kids locked away without any of those things. Talk about bad parenting skills.

It's a silly argument to compare accidents to parents making dumb decisions that set their children up to be crime victims. Aside from the implications of being a target for criminals it's not wise to allow kids to carry around a fragile $400 item. Especially when you don't have much money and you have 9 other kids to support.

Yeah, I get that about you. If a kid is killed in an accident it's just "shit happens," isn't it?

Not me. I think dead is dead, regardless of how you get that way. And I'm pretty sure that allowing your kid to play football or allowing your 16 year old to drive is much more likely to result in their death than allowing them to have an iPad. Other than keeping your kids locked up, their are risks to every choice a parent makes.

There are two types of people who use the "they were asking for it" explanation of a crime: sociopathic criminals and judgmental blame-the-victim types. Coincidence?

Funny that I didn't see you applying that same logic to the gun law debate. Drunk drivers kill more people than guns do, but you'll have to point me to the post where you called for more restrictive laws on alcohol like you did with guns.
