Selfless geture

Way way OT.

As most of you all know I'm on the transplant list for a kidney, well I received the wonderful news that my expected wait has now been pushed back from 3-4 yrs to 5-6 years(UGH!). This is an issue I've never broadcasted or outright asked anyone," HEY, you mind giving up one of your kidneys!". It's easy to joke about when you're horsing around or something like drinking beers with one of your friends or something, "I love ya Scully, and ain't the booze talkin', I'd give you a kidney anyday". When it's real life, it's a pretty delicate issue.

Well anyway, there's a man from our church who heard about my need and has graciously and selflessly offered to get tested(he's O+ also and that's the hardest to match up). To say I was a little floored is an understatement, because I don't even know him that well. I'm not even a regular church go'er, but my wife and son are very active. He is an older gentleman and I'm not sure if he'll even be eligible, but it's still such a thoughtful and selfless gesture,I'll still be forever grateful that he has even offered.Just goes to show that there are still some really great folks out there. With all the crappy news that seems to dominate lately, thought I'd share some good news

Wow an amazing thing . Many of us forget how fortunate we are . Something to think about and give thanks this week. Wishing you the best thoughts and hopes for the future.
My nephew recently had a liver transplant, where a piece is taken from a donor to regenerate into a new liver...the donor was his younger brother. Both are doing well. Good luck in your upcoming adventure. Don't worry, you will be fine! Bob
WOW John !!!!! ........ That is a "selfless gesture"

I hope all works out for you.

It would be a great Christmas present, and an awesome way to celebrate the New Year.

You're in my prayers buddy.

Rick

GOOD LUCK!
That's really cool John. I frequently get discouraged at man's inhumanity to man and selfless stories such as this serve as a good reminder that there are plenty of decent people as well.

This reminded me of something I'd seen in the news in the not-too-distant past about organ donation "chains" that have taken place, such as in This article which also has a CBS news clip. A man decided to donate a kidney to a woman who was a complete stranger to him. Her husband was willing to donate to her, but wasn't a match but he went ahead and made a donation to someone else. This chart also shows one of these chains in action.

I hope this works out for you, and if not then something else comes along soon.
That is good news. And just before Thanksgiving.Hope he is a match.
Jatki99 - my prayers are with you. It is good to know someone would make such a selfless gesture. The world is filled with many wonderful people. It is a shame that the small % of people who are not so wonderful often cloud our vision.
That would be truly wonderful. Keeping my fingers crossed for you, j.
What a generous man.

Our postal carrier gave a kidney last February, but she gave it to a donor with priority on "the list", anonymously, figuring that it should go to whoever the system deemed most worthy. I thought that was especially selfless.
