Should I have Cataract Surgery?

You really should ask medical questions like this in a Canadian Quilting forum.

We've now had 5 posters who've had the surgery provide feedback. 5 others with a close friend or relative who went through it...a couple of suggestion to explore the new Crystalens options and several comments on oral surgery. Those quilting Canadians got nothin' on this group.

I've had my right eye done, and the change was immediate and dramatic. I have 20/20 vision in that eye now. The left eye (which I thought was my "good" eye) now seems fuzzy. I actually can't wait until it is bad enough so the insurance will pay and I can get it done, too. At the rate I'm going that should be by the end of this year. The surgery is painless and only took half a day (most of which was prep and waiting for the local anesthesia to wear off). I had to wear a patch that day and the next (and at night for a week) and had to put drops in 3 times a day for a week, but then I was done with it. I only use readers now for computer work and reading...so $10 or less instead of the $325 I spent last time I got a prescription. Good luck!

Except for talent.

One word of advice: If a doctor named Murray wants to administer Propofol, ask for another doctor. You might not get up.

Thanks for all the stories. I appreciate them. I am kind of like Snidely in that I generally prefer to defer things until there is no other choice. I am going to check out the Crystalens option. The only question I have remaining is that my good eye currently is a -4.75 correction so having one eye at 20/20 or 20/40 will make glasses shopping difficult wont it?

BTW I am glad I didn't ask this in the Canadian Quilting Forum.
My mom had both of hers done and they made a real big difference. Her eyesight was so bad she was basically blind. After getting both eyes done she just needs readers.

No. You'll just have one thick-ass lens in one side of your glasses and a thin lens in the other.
