So I Send An Email To My Slot Host At....

....Sam's Town! Johhny Defulvio is his name. I get an email back that he is no longer with the Boyd organization! WTF? So I call up my friend at the front desk and ask them what's going on. She tells me that Boyd cut everyone, and there's only ONE slot host left at ST! How can that be? Johnny handled all the slot and video poker tournament that ST had regularly.

Not to mention that Johnny had 25 years at ST! How could they do that to a person? I guess he was almost ready to retire anyway, but that's besides the point. I'm sure many of you out there know Johnny from your trips to ST, and particpating in the tournaments. Johnny would do a countdown for the tournaments by counting one-two-tree in his Brooklyn accent!

They still have tournaments running, but I guess he won't be supervising them. He'll be a great loss to ST and to all the people that love him!
He probably worked more than 30 hrs a week, it's sad and unfortunately becoming more common nowadays.

Let's put him in the movie!

I have never known an adult who worked less than 30 hours a week. Was a work week of over 30 hours once uncommon?

I believe jatki99 is referring to the fact that many casinos are firing full time employees and hiring people at part-time hours (less than 30 hrs/wk) so that they can save on not giving them a benefit package (including health care).
My employees' benefits cost me an additional $6.50/hr per person. They don't even see it as a cost to me, they're only blinded by what their hourly wage is. So my full time help at $12/hr is actually costing me $18.50/hr. Ask them what they make, they'll say $12/hr...not $12/hr plus sick time, vacation time, full health care and 401K matching. I don't blame the casinos. It sucks, true, but I don't blame the casinos.

I wasn't aware that there is a trend of casinos moving to part-time help. But this has been an issue for decades, some companies trying to avoid 401K, sick time, insurance, etc.
Yes. Like the delightful employer who posted above you.

Let's just let everyone work without any benefits. Things will be pretty bleak when you get older.
At least this casino worker has his benefits to fall back on.

The casinos should be ashamed of themselves, specifically Sams Town. When profit becomes the only motivator we all lose. Thanks to Tea Party economics the working world no longer takes into account the value of customer service and the importance of people. Like Ted Kennedy use to say, "How much money is enough for all of you? You have millions of $$$ but want more. There are people in this country that don't have enough food to eat or a safe warm place to sleep. You should be ashamed of yourselves."

This my friend, is called having a social consious.
