Southwest airlines credit card question

I am thinking about getting a southwest airlines credit card as they are now flying direct to
Vegas from a nearby airport. I thought I saw 30,000 bonus points for signing up but now it is 25,000. What is the most they offer for bonus points? Do they charge an annual fee for the first year? I have read that a lot of people really like southwest airlines. What are some of the things you like (along with the drink tickets) How do you get those.

I got their card about two years ago after tossing probably 4-5 pre-approving apps unopened. I finally read the entire offer and felt it looked good. At that time the offer was 50,000 points ( I don't if offer varies offer to offer). There was supposed to be an annual fee of $79. I figured I could get two RTs with the points from Seattle, so with the annual fee, the would be about $40 per RT. Very nice rate. The funny thing is tha I just passed about 15 with the card and have yet to see a charge for the annual fee. Even if the bonus 25K points,it would still be a great deal to have the card for a year. I'm sure you can't buy 25K points for that price.

Also, on your anniversary date when they charge you the annual fee, they also give you bonus points of 4000 or 5000 points. So, the annual fee works out to be much less than the $79.00. I love the card, as I charge everything I can on it, so every month my purchases add to my point total. That is as long as you pay off the balance every month. I haven't paid for a Southwest flight in years. You will love Southwest. Don't listen to the haters.

I agree with dianebec in the fact that I have not paid for (or much) for a flight in years. Between the anniversary points, and the points I put on the card buying gas, groceries, etc. I just seem to make out like a bandit.

Got my card and my 50K points last year. If you look on their website there is more than one credit card so it's best to see what suits you. For years I was bombarded with their offers and I finally decided the timing was good. It definitely works for me as I fly SW almost exclusively out of Burbank. With or without an annual fee, if you use the card a lot, I think it is a great card. Do read the fine print though as you do have to fly once every 24 months to keep points from expiring if I recall correctly.

Its a great deal for the first year - not so much after that . All rewards credit cards have different kinds of purchases that qualify for their maximum reward payback. the sw card primarily rewards your travl purchases...and not much else. If you are someone that travels alot then your rewards will be plentiful. I spend alot more money at restaurants and grocery stores than on travel so cards that max those rewards are better for me.

For the credit card holders, how picky are they about redeeming your miles for airline tickets? Can you fly on any flight on any day, or are you limited? I, too, just received the card and I did it for the 50,000 bonus miles. I hope when the time comes to cash in I will be able to use them.

You are not limited. If there is a seat available and you have enough points, you can purchase it. If you are a little bit short on points you can even buy points.

I'm really glad you said this,we got a card a while back for the 50 k points(and that's the only car we charge anything on) and have never redeemed any points for fights, never needed to. Gonna have to check on that. THX!
