Well another one bites the dust.Jim Swartz has been fired. Now that leaves the door open for the most pathetic owner in history to hire another unqualified coach.God I wish this guy would go away.
The Lions are finally spending a lot of money on players and now Schwartz gets fired. I think the Ford family is finally trying to win. I still expect us to embrace more suck. Our problems run deep, maybe deeper than any of us know.
The Lions have been spending a lot of money on players for at least two decades, all teams do. Spending isn't the issue.
By rule, every team must spend at least 89% of the salary cap, about $123 million this year, and the teams must collectively spend an average of 95% of the cap.
They all spend pretty close to the same amount. The problem is what the Lions/Browns/Bills/Dolphins/Jets/Raiders/Cowboys/Jags spend it on.
Chilcoot, I don't doubt your posted statistics. I am saying they are actually willing to match contract offers or pay huge contracts more than in the past. It gives me a perception that they are trying a little harder than past years. I understand your literal explanation above. Regardless I think the Lions likely will continue to disappoint.
It is weird how inept the Lions have been for so long.
But hang in there, the league has a lot of parity. A little luck will come Detroit's way, and luck plays a big role in the NFL, probably more so than the other 3 major leagues.
Alittle luck? This year the Lions were handed the NFC North championship because of a very weak division. They didn't need luck. They were in the drivers seat and ended up taking a u-turn.After 56 years of futility, they will never win with this ownership.Like motownbob said, their problems run a lot deeper than any of us know.
The lions are cursed, I'm tellin you, cursed ! The only viable solution is to sell the team and have them move to Las Vegas . . Then in two years , bring in an expansion team. Three or four years later , SUPER Bowl !!! Bob
It's really a shame how the Lions have tanked in recent years. They have an exceptable offense and defense, but just don't seem to get things together. You'd think after they beat the Cowboys on that QB smeak, that would have given them the momentum to win more games at the end of the season. Heck....my Giants even beat them!
