teechur and DonDiego visit the Deep South

It is simply impossible to find fault with the region of the country that gave us Blackened Grouper and Popeye's Chicken...two staples of my diet during my 2 year stay in the Gulf Region.

And I agree we shouldn't demagogue parts of the country just because the politics dont match our own....like when people call New York a police state because of soft drink laws, or Chicago a haven for criminals because thats where the president is from, or San Francisco a refuge for gay-anarchist-devil worshippers because the city values diversity. You know, that kind of thing.

Thanks for the great TR and pics. I have read quite a few of your fun threads and it looks like you and your very patient and good natured wife know how to enjoy life.

Too bad others had to spoil your thread.

Lucky you, lunch at Commander's Palace. Hmmm Hmmm good. Did you have their signature bread pudding for dessert? Not only does Commander's offer top notch service, excellent food, a 3 martini lunch, they give you a paper chef's hat with the words Happy Birthday written on it when you dine their for your birthday. I can't wait to go back.
Indeed, Commander's palace does serve excellent midday fare.

DonDiego's lunch commenced with a "Whoa Nellie", a combination of rye whiskey, dark rum, Cointreau, fresh fruit, and spicy bitters. Exquisite!
DonDiego next selected "Chef Tory's Classic Creole Luncheon" comprising Creole Gumbo, a superb main course of pork tenderloins, and, yes, the signature Creole Bread Pudding Souffle. To accompany the dessert, he enjoyed some coffee with chicory and a D'Arenberg late-harvested McLaren Vale Riesling from Australia, The Noble Wrinkled.

teecher had some-sorta cocktail and a signature 25-cent lunch Martini, . . . and some-kinda soup, followed by a main course of some-type-of-bird, and lastly pecan pie.

The ambiance, the drinks, the food, and the service were all exemplary, . . . as was DonDiego's dining partner.
Oh, and, indeed, a young lady at the table next to teechur and DonDiego was enjoying her birthday lunch with a chef's hat provided by the establishment.

DonDiego recommends Commander's Palace to anyone and everyone who possesses more money than common sense.

Indeed, teechur is most good natured, forebearing, and forgiving.

And treegirl is wise to recognize and chastise the nitpickers, faultfinders, and troublemakers who persistently bedevil poor old DonDiego. Has treegirl ever dreamed of having lunch with an old man in a faraway place?

That's my #1 fantasy.

Their cosmopolitans are the best and my server recommended staying with them instead of trying one of the other martinis. I accompanied my cosmos with one of their signature seafood dishes.

Glad I got a token mention there....again. lol

The REAL reason DonDiego doesn't "remember" my meal is because I had their famous turtle soup and the 'bird' was stuffed quail. Delicious! DonDiego did not like the idea of those creatures being eaten...so he blanked it from his mind.

DonDiego is actually a very sensitive guy...but don't let it get around!

Thanks for sharing the pictures and TR DD. The Blades did NO the weekend before Halloween.... enjoyed nice food and fun, too windy and cold to be outside much, 1st trip back since the Hurricane. Harrahs Casino really drained our bankroll.
