Texas middle school principal fired for urging kids to speak English

Here's another example where a Liberal policy of coddling is certain to leave children woefully unprepared for life. With Liberals it's always about intent, not performance.

Oh how times have changed, my Dads parents spoke German and forbid him from speaking German after they moved to the once great USA.
And what the hell is wrong with urging kids to speak English in an American school?
My two boys took German while in high school, and their teacher would not allow anything but German to be spoken while in class.

Is that such a bad thing to speak only German in a German class?

I have absolutely no idea of what Forkie's cut and paste has to do with the topic of this thread.
You lost my interest at "washingtontimes.com".
On the surface it seems outrageous. But somehow I can't help believing there is more to this story. So I Googled and found this information not included in the Washington Times article. "The formal notice of termination Lacey received from the board listed eight reasons for not renewing her contract. Those included failure to fulfill her duties, incompetence or inefficiency, inability to maintain discipline, insubordination and failure to meet professional conduct standards."

To Muskeg's point, I don't point to things that agenda-driven media or personalities like Rush Limbaugh or Rachel Maddow or their print brethren as reliable, objective information.

Because it's a personnel issue and the employer can't talk, we'll probably never know the real story, just the views of the disgruntled ex-employee.
I consider myself a liberal, but I don't see anything wrong with expecting children to speak English in school. It is preparing them for the real world, and allowing them to communicate in their native tongue all the time is going to hold them back. The accommodation that should be made is when there is an emergency situation...many people get flustered in such circumstances and having someone who can understand and translate what they're upset about is a plus. I also think if they want to converse with their friends in their own language during lunch or recess, that should be allowed...but in the classroom or when addressing teachers, I agree that English is best...so please don't generalize about liberals (or anyone else for that matter) we're not clones. k
