In New York City (45% white), "96.7 percent of those arrested for shooting someone are black and Hispanic", while 2.5% are white.



Now tell us, rationally and without name-calling, why we should vote for a party that wants to confiscate guns from white and Asian people for crimes committed overwhelmingly by blacks and hispanics?

Why we should vote for a party that refuses to protect us by enacting long mandatory sentences for violent gun offenders because those offenders are their political base?

The FBI has compiled statistics for 2010 Crime in the United States. With regard to murder: "Of the offenders for whom race was known, 53.1 percent were black, 44.6 percent were white, and 2.3 percent were of other races." And:"Of the homicides for which the FBI received weapons data, most (67.5 percent) involved the use of firearms. Handguns comprised 68.5 percent of the firearms used in murders and nonnegligent manslaughters in 2010."

DonDiego is suspicious of the number; he doubts he will find statistics on Mexicans in the FBI database.
In 2012 the Pew Research Center compiled data on self-identified party-affiliation by race:
-Among Whites, 32% claim Republican-affiliation; 26% claim Democrat-affiliation.
-Among Blacks, 69% claim Democrat; 5% claim Republican.
-Among Hispanics [not " Mexicans"], 32% claim Democrat. 11% claim Republican.
So Blacks and Hispanics show significant preference for the Democrat Party; whether this constitutes them being "the base of the Democrat Party" is up for debate.
[n.b. DonDiego finds the number of those respondents claiming to be independent of either party-affiliation surprisingly high. Sometimes poll-respondents are not totally truthful.]

Oh, for the record, DonDiego doesn't see any connection between racial-matters and the Second Amendment. So one might conclude meldebewy's posts are inappropriate as to the original argument on this thread. But inappropriate posts are ubiquitous on the internets.

American Blacks are convicted of criminal acts at a disproportionately high rate. Likewise, a few years back Italians-Americans participated in organized criminal activity far out of proportion to their numbers.

And around 150 years ago, the preponderance of anti-American traitors and terrorists were American Southerners.

Of course, correlation does not equal causation, and their are and were other causes, right? Anyone who thinks that Blacks and Italian-Americans are naturally criminal, or that Southerners are naturally traitors to the United States, is a bigot. I choose to judge people on their individual behavior, and not the disgraceful, scumbag behavior of their cohorts.

I'm not aware of any confiscation bill that would take weapons away from anyone - let alone base that confiscation upon race (how emotional). The most aggressive bill in committee that I am aware of would outlaw the sale of certain weapons which is distinctly different from confiscating them from existing owners. Gun lovers are not unaware of this distinction as noted by the run on many of these weapons already referenced in this thread. Of course, Don Diego or melbedewey can feel free to outline any such bill to confiscate weapons by providing a credible reference below.

One truly ironic fact born out by melbedewey's statisitics is the disproportionate effect background checks would have on the minority populations of African Americans and Hispanics. Since those demographics have a higher correlation of felony convictions they would also then have a higher correlation of denials for weapons purchases under a universal background check law. So when melbedewey suggests (as he often "emoptionally" does) that gun control laws somehow disarm law- abiding white people while arming law-breaking black people ...well, actually the exact oppossitte is true - which makes it kinda funny. He's a funny guy.
