Traveller's Wi Fi in Vegas Poor connection, GOOD CS!

Edited 9/1/09: See new message posted 9/1/09 for "final" resolution. This has been resolved to my complete satisfaction.

Original Message:

Needed to get online during my August trip because I decided to extend my stay. Wanted to book a new flight.

Decided to pay for Wi Fi from my room in Binion's instead of lugging the computer to MSS or Starbucks. Next time, I will definitely opt for the inconvenience of lugging the laptop somewhere.

Elected the $11.99 "24 hour" plan from Traveler's WiFi powered by Cheetah Network.

I was so dissapointed I actually wrote and complained. It took me 5 hours to download "updates" and email that usually take 20-30 minutes from home, at the most. A "broadband" speed check showed a big latency and disappointing slow speed.

Slow page loading, constant refreshes needed, I finally got so exasperated I telephoned Spirit Air to book a flight over the telephone. I just could not "surf" for a deal, although I probably got the best available from the telephone CSR anyway.

So multi tasking, the telephone was faster than the WiFi service, even after being on hold for a short while with Spirit!

I sent an email to Travelers WiFi.

Dear Mr. xxxxxxxxx,

We regret that the service was not to your satisfaction. We strive to provide a premier service to all our customers. CWTI runs one of the most sophisticated Metro Wi-Fi Networks in the country with over 100K transactions per month. In many cases, the signal from our transmitters is so strong that it reaches areas where the laptop cannot talk back. We have made every effort to tune the network to reduce these occurrences- but sometimes it happens.

We have carefully reviewed your file and base on the time use and quantity of data movement (322 minutes, 89.2 Mb download, 5.3 Mb upload - see below) we are unable to provide a full refund. As a courtesy, we will only charge for one hour of service ($6.99).

A full refund of $5.00 has been issued to your credit card.

Next time you are in Vegas, please call us prior to purchasing and let us know you were a previously refunded customer and we will give you 50% off your next service purchase.

Best Regards,

Mitch

President

Heads up, Mitch.

I won't be calling for 50% off next trip. I'll use the airport, local library, Starbucks, MSS or plethora of free WiFi available in Vegas, and if it means a bus or shuttle ride and lugging my computer, it still won't be as inconvenient or exasperating as your network.

There is no second chance to make a good first impression.

We get hookup everytime we're in vegas but think it's thru a cable. Don't have any proplem at all. sometimes Wi Fi sucks imo.
It's time like these the Iphone pays for itself. Well, kinda.
I bought the internet service at Palazzo (9.95 per 24 hrs) and Bellagio (14.95 per 24 hours) and both gave excellent service.
Sorry yours was so crappy!

I hate having to pay hotels and such for Wi-Fi service. These days it should come standard with the room, just as cable TV does.

My company uses T-Mobile for our cell phone carrier. The nice thing about that is that T-Mobile lets you tether your laptop to a Blackberry or PDA phone and use your phones unlimited data plan to power the Internet on your laptop. Anyway I get a cell phone signal, I also get high speed data. No extra cost.
I hate having to pay for it, too; when I got cell service here, in Vegas, I added a broadband plan nad hardware so I'd never have to pay for hotel broadband, again
My cell phone plan is 10 cents per minute. Since I do not use it much, my average has been about $6.00-7.00/ month.

Nothing fancy. It will do text messages, but I don't know how or care to send any. No camera, no internet.

As for wifi, Vegas is the only place I've been lately where it has not been very readily accessible for free. Not a problem, but I'm so darn lazy I just did not want to pack the laptop and walk 2 blocks to Krispy Kreme or MSS from Binion's. Both have free wifi.

I opted for the expensive convenience which turned out to not be worth it.

My bad.

I am glad I can get online with my phone now and not have to pay the charges.
All I really need the internet for is to check in for my return flight, I can print my bording pass at LAS.
I don't bring my laptop anymore and that is nice not having the extra weight.
Does McCarren still have the free wifi? I noticed on my last flight, a couple weeks ago to Ft Lauderdale, that Dulles's formerly free wifi is now fee-based.
McCarren had free WiFi on 8/26 for sure.
