The Unaffordable Care Act

From the Boston Globe, for 60-year olds making less than $30k:

"But the price of the bronze plans would be considerably lower. The premiums would be entirely covered by the tax credits in Hartford; that plan would only cost $16 monthly in Richmond and Providence, and only $19 in Baltimore. With the tax subsidies, monthly premiums would be under $75 in 12 of the cities."

No that's not why Americans hate Congress. They hate Congress:
[...]
  • because of family values Senators like Senator Vitter who are caught with prostitutes...

  • Damn I'm good!

At about the same time I wrote that, Politico reported that, if Vitter goes ahead with his grandstanding over the OPM revenue neutral decision, Democrats may introduce legislation to deny insurance subsides to anyone if there is probable cause that they engaged in the solicitation of prostitution.

    Take that, Diaper Dave.

Oh, . . . by the way, . . . the Congressional Budget Office now calculates that Obamacare will be running a deficit by 2016, . . . and the deficit will total approximately 180-billion dimes by the end of this decade.

DonDiego is shocked. But he will likely get over it.
The CBO said no such thing according to your link. You should correct the record.

    forkushV is correct.

Based upon the original CBO estimate and the additional costs presently anticipated because of incompetence in instituting the program and expensive political decisions Investor's Business Daily, not the CBO, calculated the likely $18-billion deficit to be accumulated by the end of this decade.

DonDiego apologizes for the error and thanks forkushV for alerting him to it.

    : : : EDITED TO ADD : : :
In his random news-reading today, poor old DonDiego found that, in fact, the CBO did calculate that the 1-year delay in enforcing the business participation in Obamacare will result in a loss of $12-billion in revenue, just as IBD suggested.. DonDiego supposes the CBO wouldn't differ greatly from IBD in the $18-billion estimated deficit through 2019, if/when they get around to estimating it.

    [This post intentionally left empty.]

[Well, technically, it was emptied after it was posted, because it was a duplicate post to that immediately above, . . . but it wasn't poor old DonDiego's fault. The Las Vegas Advisor site had stalled installing the post and DonDiego reposted it without any indication that it had already posted and, sure enough, it displayed itself twice.
Oh and not to change the subject but, . . . by the way, . . . all day yesterday DonDiego was warned that this site was loaded up again with malware, so he avoided entering. Who's attacking the site, . . . and is the objective of the malware evil mayhem or commercial exploitation or what?
[Actually that second paragraph, above, was to change the subject.]]

Typically what younger folks do is sign up for a state minimum coverage policy which offers a partly 10k of property damage coverage and 25k in injury coverage. You will see advertisements for this type of coverage all over radio and TV the emphasis is always on "state minimum coverage"

However, unlike Obama care the benefits for car insurance is front end loaded. There is no coinsurance and since we are talking about liability coverage there is no deductible. They get the full benefit of what they paid for immediately.

Under Obama care the 25 year old doesn't get the benefits of up front. If he or she gets sick or hurt they get popped for $6,350 up front and if their injury or illness stretches over two calendar years they get popped for $12,700 upfront.

Prior to Obama care we used to call health insurance policies like these "catastrophic polices " and they were only suitable for high income people that had the disposable income to pay the co pays and deductibles. Now they are suddenly mainstream for low and middle income folks? lol

Here is what I think is going to happen after a few years of Obama care. 1. None of the flaws we be fixed because they are there by design to save the government money and to preserve profits for the private health insurance companies. 2. All of you that have insurance through your employer are in for bad news too. Your formally 80/20 plan that had a cap of $2500 per-year will morph into one of these catastrophic plans that is 60/40 with a $6,350 out of pocket within a few years.

You said the typical premium for someone that age was $146 a month so that gives them up to $1752 dollars a year to spend on medical treatment instead of insurance...
I bet if you ran their numbers for car insurance you'd come up with the same conclusion. Also a really bad idea however.

That's a big part of the problem it is too complex. The complexity isn't because it is "socialized" medicine for the masses, but rather because it contains guarantees of unending and ever increasing profits for insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, large corporate hospital companies and doctors.
If you truly had socialized medicine it would be very simple system. That is why the CBO says a single payer is so much cheaper than any other system that retains private insurance.

Are you saying the 12,000+ page program is not enough?

    Exactly.

They still don't accept that President Obama passed Obamacare, then was re-elected in a landslide.

Ah well, at least there aren't many of them.
