Values

I don't want this to become a political thread but I need to vent. I've been messed over because I've never known how to play corporate politics in my career.

My parents, family and friends instilled in me the values of morals, trust, respect, loyalty, integrity, honesty, camaraderie, and nobility.

Maybe the loss of these is what's wrong with America and the world today!

One part is the fact that more kids don't have 2 parents to raise them anymore.
Another is the "we must be inclusive" mentality.
Add in a bit of the I'm a victum.
And a pinch of "you owe me"

Back, what seems like ages ago, we were told that hard work will get you ahead. Now, we are told that the government will take care of you and you don't have to do anything.
Poppycock. There is nothing wrong with America and the world today that's any different than it was 25, 50, 100 or 200 years ago. People are people and lots of people are assholes. It's always been that way and always will be. 50 years ago people blamed the Beatles for society's decline.

That still applies today. Hard work will get you ahead. If you don't do anything the government will help out so you don't die in the streets but don't think the government is handing out moolah and people on the dole have an envious existence. Sure, there's lots of people that take advantage today of government hospitality but there were people just like that 1000s of years ago. Just read some Homer and he talks about the beggars and how they would take advantage.

DonDiego finds nothing amiss in wrosie's post.

Those not incorporating the values which wrosie cites are often responsible for the unpleasantness which seems to be thriving not only in America but around the world.
Just as it always has.

And in the world of work. DonDiego was also deficient in workplace politics; but he was lucky that he recognized the Peter Principle early: "People will tend to be promoted until they reach their position of incompetence". So he was generally happy in just doing the job he had capably.

Being happy with one's own self is pr'bly better than achieving things by violating one's principles, . . . pr'bly. Of course achieving things without violating one's principles is best of all.
On the other hand, . . . one could just change one's principles, . . . yeah, that's the ticket, . . . change one's principles to achieve whatever one wants. But such discussion would make this a political thread.

Diego always makes me chuckle with admiration. Another fine comment.

"What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Ecclesiastes 1:9

It just shows up in different forms.

I have to respectfully disagree . Years ago , in many circles , it was considered "wrong" to accept help under just about any circumstances . Today , however , in many areas , it is a second and third generation habit , where it becomes the norm .
I could never understand how if you truly loved your children you would be a single mother and have four or five kids that you couldn't provide a good life for... not to mention having them by for or five baby daddys who couldn't care less . Bob

Bob I totally agree. My mother always told us six kids "when you want a helping hand look at the end of you sleeve."

My father always told me "son there is no millionaire going to come to the door and say hey you're a nice guy here a bunch of money so you don't have to work."

I am old enough to remember when most of society would be embarrassed to ask for help in any way, shape or form. Now there are many who think it shows how smart they are to scam the system.

I have been in many home in the course of my career where it is 11 o'clock on a school day and three generations are living in the same section 8 apartment. The 20 year old girl is pregnant for the third time with no man anywhere to be found. No one has a job and no one is in school. The kids are raised to think this is the normal way of doing things.

How many people do you know who got upside down in their home. They can still afford to pay for it but screw it. I'll do a strategic default and go by a bigger better house and just walk away from this one and then they tell me I am stupid for honoring my commitment to the bank because I am upside down also.

Some people truly need a hand up and we need to figure out a way to give those people the help they need but we need to make the others accountable for themselves.

Yep..and I've been in many a sec. 8 house before(I did a lot of sub work for a guy who rented exclusively sec.8), and would show up at 11 or whenever to fix something and there'd be a guy playing Xbox on a big screen drinking a 40.
