Jaguar4600. After reading your post, my first thought was to respond with an angry retort at your bias and ignorance. However, as I began to type I realized I rather pitied you more than I was angered by you. I think perhaps you are confusing being gay with being a child molester. One certainly doesn't lead to the other. If you think otherwise you are sadly mistaken. Furthermore, I don't see gays as "promoting" gayness nowadays either. Again, I think you are confusing promoting with simple joy and happiness on their part at simply being more accepted by the vast majority of people and being able to live life openly and not having to hide in the shadows and live a life of fear of exposure and hatred.

It's time for you to enter the 21st century Jaguar and smell the roses of acceptance and goodwill. Might do you some good, and I doubt any gays will be abusing you for it, although a good hug might be in the offing, and that never hurt anyone!

Just saying.

I'm sorry this happened to you as a child. I can see it filled you with a half-century of confusion.

Just so you know, rape and sex are not the same thing. If you somehow still don't know this at your age, ask the wife if she'd like to have rape with you tonight. I'm sure she'll explain.

Buy the way, was the man Lutheran? Maybe that means Lutherans are rapists. (HINT: It doesn't.)

Was the man fond of grilled cheese sandwiches? Maybe that means fromage grillé connisseurs are rapists. (HINT: It doesn't.)

Yes, your rapist may have been gay. But more to the point, he was a rapist. I'm thinking the rapist aspect of his character was a lot more meaningful to his attempt to rape you than his sexual orientation was.

Good on Disney, I wouldn't knowingly support a purposefully-bigoted organization either. With the encouragement of Disney and others, BSA will figure this out and fully correct their policy, they've already come a long way.

You arrogant condescending pile of crap. You don't know what he did to me and you don't know what he said to me. He was a prime example of a NAMBLA member. He should have never been anywhere close to a Boy Scouts camping trip. You may think it is okay for those predatory animals to be around young men. I don't.

Forkie will tell us that gay men are no more likely to be interior decorators, and flight attendants. Next he will call me homophobic for pointing out the truth. Then Forkie will ask "How do you know the truth?". Finally he will ask, "Did you poll interior decorators and flight attendants?".

I've never polled the sky, yet I know that the sky is blue.

Nope, I'll decline to do all of the above, and simply quote the American Psychological Association - again - and then watch you sputter.

I'm not going to wade into BobOrme's namecalling gutter. A man raped or tried to rape him a long time ago and he obviously can't discuss this topic like a rational adult.

I doubt he'll ever figure out that wanting to have sex with men is different from wanting to sexually assault boys. He probably doesn't realize it, but he's basically saying that straight men who want to have sex with women also necessarily want to sexually assault young girls. If that's how the world appears to him, well, nothing I write here is going to have much impact.

I will say, however, that when BobOrme was attacked however many decades ago, the Boy Scouts had a policy of not allowing homosexual troop leaders. Yet that policy didn't seem to prevent BobOrme from being attacked by someone the Boy Scouts apparently thought was trustworthy. Seems like worthless policies like that, born out of confusion about what sex is and what rape is, need to go.

Until then, we'll just need to keep educating guys like BobOrme, Todd Akin, and Richard Mourdock about the difference between rape and sex.
Bob Orme, never having suffered through such a frightening experience as you described I can only imagine the depth of your anger at this individual. I'm sure I would be equally angry also. However, the deplorable actions of one individual does not speak to an entire group. What he did no more describes gay men than a rapist of a female does heterosexual men. It simply describes a criminal. No more, no less. The most vile, disgusting evil of all criminals in my estimation, but in the end, just a criminal. To ascribe anything other than that to him is simply wrong.

Now that people of alternative sexual preferences are no longer hiding in the shadows it has become apparent that there is a much larger percentage of the population than most folks once thought that don't fit nicely into the "normal" we all grew up with. Especially folks of my age have had to change their thinking pretty drastically from what we were taught was right and normal ( I'm 66 ).

When its all said and done, they are just people like all the rest of us, complete with the warts and failings, the beauties and accomplishments, and everything else that all the rest of us have and are. No better, no worse.

Just folks.
The field of Psychology is incredibly ineffective in both its ability to cure people and its ability to predict the future actions of people. In other words, psychologists don't know squat. Hell, I was at a dinner party several years ago and the marriage counselor was twice divorced and his son was a drug addict.
