The only true thing in this is that Fred Phelps was indeed a Democrat. And every time the Democrats had a chance to vote for someone other than Fred Phelps, they took it. He lost every Democratic primary, often by a 60-70 points, because Democrats have always disagreed with everything Phelps stands for.
Sure, Phelps called himself a Democrat. So what? In this country, anyone monsterous jerk can declare themselves a member of any political party they want. Hell, Ted Bundy, Dennis Rader, and Jarold Lee Laughner were all Republicans, so what?
Phelps was not a Gore fundraiser. In fact, Phelps picketed both Gore's 1997 inaugural ball and Al Gore Sr's funeral in 1998.
