What the Heck Is Going On With Gas Prices Again?

Good to hear from you again Jon. I hope you are enjoying your retirement. I agree with most of what you say. The thing that I agree with most is that the politicians pockets are lined with oil company money. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that we need to get off our dependance of oil. In the mean time let's fund and complete the darn pipeline. Wow, that might actually stimulate the economy!

I believe the poster was talking about banning trading in Oil Commodity Futures...not oil company stocks.

I would never have guesed that was what was meant, since the poster's exact words were "freeze Wall Street from trading in oil company stocks".

Those are not the posters 'exact' words. I think he was talking about trading in oil..not oil companies since that's the only way to end speculation in oil and that's what people are generally talking about when they think Wall Street is responsible for driving oil prices higher through speculation....but whatever.

Eventually oil will be replaced by something less expensive. That's the way technology/markets work. So, you are exactly right that we should complete the pipeline and keep prices as low as possible right now. Cheap energy is what drives our prosperity.

One of the reasons our recovery has been so slow is the continued push to fleece energy buyers with nonsensical green energy solutions.

California is doing the summer shift to different blends...that's always a good excuse for higher prices...temporary higher prices.

Why would Calif. have to switch to a different blend of gas? Very rarely do temps dip below 40 degrees, and you have to be up in the higher elevations to get them to dip to freezing! It's just another scam by the oil companies.

Usual rhetoric with no facts.

The oil companies have been investigated numerous times, with no proof of price fixing.

The federal company makes more money thru oil taxes than any oil company.

Oil companies profits are in the 6% range, not the 10%+ claimed by a poster. Oil company profits % are below average.

Banning trading in oil company stocks is illegal and even if it was allowed how would that lower prices? Should we ban trading in Google as it's net income is 30% of revenue? Should google be investigated for price gouging?

But, gee....I wonder who is investigating them? Could it be the Congress that allowed them to merge in the first place?

Hey Jon (sionow), I have some Padres tickets for you. They are sometime in July depending on what game you want to see. I'll PM you with the dates and opponents. Since you're retired now, I guess you don't have to have weekends only. Tickets are in the car as I picked them up on Friday. I'll get back to you soon!

Because California is the only state that requires a specific blend of gas that is expensive to produce.

The companies have been investigated by the anti oil congress of pelosi/Reid as well as the justice dept led by by anti oil owebama/ holder.

Not everything is a conspiracy.
