No, the OP stated clearly the friend was lying on the bed, resting.

Maybe she had to rest after her visit to the toilet.

She might be a quick pooper but still didn't want to inconvience her friend.
Lol

Now what about those that share a room and the last one in at night would most likely but the bar on.
I'm not sure if getting woke up to let your roommate in is any less annoying than housekeeping walking in.
not sure about everyone else but I usually put the "do not disturb" sign out on the door all the time. I don't want room service every day and I usually just leave it on my doorknob unless I want them to clean my room. After they clean my room I put the sign back out on the door.

I also try to keep the deadbolt on the door whenever I am in my room, habitual I guess, I try to lock it whenever I enter the room.

of course the sign could be a problem, one year I was at the lvc, someone (probably kids) moved the signs around on the doors on my floor, instead of "do not disturb" they turned it to the "please clean" side was showing.

I did have the "room check" once at the el cortez. the maid knocked on the room before opening the door. She said that she did the room check because my room was showing that I had checked out already, which I hadn't. I always thought it was standard for them to knock before entering, even if it was for a room check.

of course if it was a cute maid she is always welcome to visit anytime to do a room check.

The part about if it was a cute maid was funny Makikiboy. I've never, ever, in my life seen a cute one (ha-ha).

You need to take a vacation in hawaii, lol. Many of the housekeeping staff are younger immigrant types on the neighbor islands.

I was on the big island in May. We found a 8" centipede (argh!) in the shower one afternoon. The maid and another male attendant came in to remove the centipede (we covered the centipede with a glass) and clean the shower. The next day the maid was cleaning my room and she again apologized about the centipede and we chatted for a few minutes. guess she was originally from the philipines and living in hawaii now.

Too bad, she wasn't in any maid outfit (especially french maid outfits, shucks). Just in an aloha print shirt and below the knee skirt.

The hotel (hapuna prince) gave us a $50 credit for our troubles so it turned out well for me (I checked my room for insects every day after that though).

the only time i dont have a do not disturb sign on, is when im checking out. the room checks happen when the sign is on.

you are correct, sometimes guests leave the sign on the door after they check out requiring the room check. but other than that one incident I never had them come in to do a room check when I was still scheduled to be in the room.

I plan on doing a report but I'm still on Vegas time. By the time I roll out of bed at noon I'm way behind on getting my stuff done for the day. Maybe tonight I'll have time for the report.

And no, she wasn't pooping. We had just been at The Price is Right and she and my daughter both wanted to change out of their goofy shirts. She was only in the room for about 7 minutes.
Would they do a room check even with a do not disturb sign on the door? I too have never experienced a room check but am seldom in the room at that time of day. Dont like the idea of entering without knocking - wow!
Oops- didn't read page 2 before asking about the door sign. I guess when in Vegas there really is somebody always watching.
