What's Up With Las Vegas Native Kurt Busch ?

Ever notice that different sports never seem to get much attention (which always equates to money) until one of their own becomes controversial and riles up the public? Just a tried and trued marketing tool.
Attention? NASCAR and the NFL own the states. We're not talking bowling here.

No.

And I've never witnessed a sport encourage its players to be antisocial to generate publicity. (NOTE: WWE isn't a sport.)

Here's the deal: Kurt Busch is a jerk. That's all. He's a jerk, has always been a jerk, and apparently will always be a jerk.

He's also a very good at turning a car left at high speeds. So good that he's made many, many millions driving a car left at high speeds. Because there's a lot of demand in this country to watch people turn cars left at high speeds. He's really good at that, and so the money flows.

But he's a jerk, an unhappy, miserable jerk. That's all there is to it. No conspiracy, no marketing gimmick. Just a jerk.

Agreed, Kurt Busch is a jerk. However he has won at Watkins Glen, I personally witnessed one.

He gets more practice turning left, but the jerk can turn right too.

Just a little tidbit for those wanting to know why the reporter was sticking a microphone in Mr. Busch's face after the conclusion of Saturday's Nascar Nationwide Series race.

Per Nascar rules, and according to the Nascar license each driver has to sign at the start of the season, the winner of the race (Cup, Nationwide, Trucks) after doing a little celebration of their choice, proceeds to victory lane. Finishing positions #2, #3, #4, #5 proceed in order down pit road and park, in a relative semblance of order, in the vicinity of the start finish line. Drivers that finish in positions 2 thru 5 are then to exit their cars and make themselves available to the TV, Radio, and Print Media for interviews, immediately after the conclusion of the race.

Drivers are also reminded of this procedure during the drivers meeting, which is held approx. 1 to 2 hours before racetime.

Kurt Busch finished 4th Saturday.
I'm not going to defend Busch. but after driving 500 miles, I'd think I'd be a little "cranky" to talk to the media. I guess NASCAR has to promote their sport, and asking drivers to talk to the media is just one of those "things" they have to do! Wouldn't want it to be me!

This was a 200 mile race. Every other driver was able to conduct himself or herself in a way that didn't make rational observers conclude he or she was a flaming d-bag.
JM2300 has a valid point. Yes....for the most part Nascar is go fast and turn left. But twice a year at the Cup level, the drivers get to go fast, turn left......and right ! They visit both Watkins Glen and Sonoma road courses. Some fans hate those tracks......I sort of enjoy watching those races. It's just different....seeing the #3500 pound stockers blasting their way around the road courses. Sort of wish there were a few more of those types of tracks on the schedule.

As for the interview asap after the race thing for positions 2 thru 5, maybe if they gave them a 5 minute cooling off period ? 2 reasons why that will not happen: Brian France (dictator of Nascar......and lover of 12 year old bourbon) would never allow that. 2nd......interviews with drivers 2 thru 5 is used to cover air time whilst the winner is doing his celebratory burnouts. After the race, available TV time is most often very limited. Squeeze all the interviews you can in a small alloted time.

Kurt Busch has a lot to learn. Take, for example, another so called bad boy of the sport, Kevin Harvick. He can be a jerk, caustic at times, rail on his pit crew, yell at other drivers, but you will never see him abuse a member of the media. He may give a smart ass answer, he may intentionally mislead, he may be sarcastic, but he has never (to my knowledge) abused a member of the media. He has been in physical altercations with quite a few Nascar drivers.....Greg Biffle, Kurt & Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, Joey Logano, ect... (it's a long list), but when he screws up, he owns up to it.

And trust me....Kevin Harvick has been on probation.....A LOT ! Some of that probation time well deserved ! But at least he realizes his mistakes, reins in his emotions when needed (media interviews), and is a complete opposite to those drivers that are like a jar of mayonaaise such as JM2300 mentioned.

Both Kurt and Kyle could learn some lessons from him. How to be an a-hole, yet a loveable a-hole

And just for the record......I am a Kevin Harvick fan !
I think we are forgetting one thing. This person gets paid to drive and all that goes with it. Kurt has been an arrogant person from day one. There are several drivers coming forward along with car owner Joe Gibbs stating that Kurt has problems outside the track in his personal life and that he needs to address those concerns.

James Finch the car owner has not returned his calls, and doesn't want to speak to him. They don't think that there are any sponsors that will take him on.

In the words of Bill France, "You need this sport more than this sport needs you."

I hope he gets his act together or he will be a has been before he has had a chance to be a legend. Just look at Jeremy Mayfield, Shane Hmeil and others.

Well now everyone has an opinion and mine is GO DALE JR!!!! I know you have a country attitude with not much personality but I am leaving Texas in 27 more days to come see you in Daytona to take your first win in years. Thanks for saving it for me to see in person.

Boo to Kurt B. who needs some anger management classes!!!
