What's up with TV

We all complain when one our favorite shows gets yanked, but we (including me) forget why the networks are there. They're not there to provide good entertainment. They are there to make money for the shareholders. It's frustrated to see a fav get the hook after six shows because the ratings aren't there. In this thread's example, well rated shows are 86'd because they aren't or project not to make money in the long term. It's frustrating, but hey, it's 2012! Fortunately, every oncein a while a quality show gets ratings with right demo! Not often, but every once in a while. In the meantime, you can usually find something on one of the 966 cable channels available.

Good Luck!

In these 2 cases you had successful shows whose only fault was an older demo. The point I was making was that the decision to cancel was because marketers (whose average age is in the 30's) think people that are over 49 are to old to do anything even when presented with valid research that this group is active and has more disposable income than the under 49 group. The ad buys for most products should be based on total audience

Treating people over 49 as useless is insulting

I work at a media company with older demos and we face similiar challenges when soliciting advertising

Funny you should mention Matlock because today is Andy Griffith's 86 birthday.

I don't think it has anything to do with disposable income. It's all about establishing buying habits. It's been shown that people tend to stay with products once they find one they like. So, everyone wants their product to be seen by those still establishing those habits. Those would be in the younger demographic.

Well, Happy Birthday to Andy.
My fave new show this season is Person of Interest. Hope it's not cancelled.
Arci is correct in that theory, but there is extensive research to the contrary that brand loyalty doesn't exist and that people change their buying habits & are willing to try new things (this 50 yr old is typing this on a tablet).

Person of Interest was renewed, which is a very good show
I reeeaallly wanted to like Harry's Law. Kathy Bates is superb in most anything.

I tried.

But...I don't know...something...I couldn't stay with it.
I suspect Bates was carrying the show and ratings...just my opinion.
