Where should we venture to??

Agree about Death Valley. Also review some of sinow's summer 2012 trip reports for ideas.
Whoops, just checked my post and found that the Tonopah link leads to Goldfield. Here's Tonopah: Tonopah

Also, if you're wanting to sightsee a bit, make a big loop from Vegas. Go up 15 to the Great Basin Highway, and to Tonopah via the Extraterrestial Highway.

I've never stopped in Alamo, but a person I know that was born and raised in Nevada absolutely loves the place. I need to stop in there this fall. You might want to check it out and see what they loved about it.

Stop in at Rachel for a burger (coupons at The Little A'Le'Inn website) before continuing to Tonopah (or stay there for a night). Then, when you head back to Vegas, head south on 95 to go through Goldfield, and later stopping (of course) at the Death Valley Nut & Candy Company.

Edited to add, just checked out the coupon for the burgers, and it's no longer 2/1, but instead buy 3, get the 4th free. Ah well, it's a vacation, right?
If you can change to February, go on the tour of the Nevada atomic bomb test site. It takes all day, and you'll see some of the damaged houses and bridges you've probably seen on video. You also get to walk into a crater caused by an underground test. The tour takes you past Creech Air Force Base, and on our tour, they were practicing touch-and-go landing with Predator drones. They flew right over our bus.
Did anyone mention Mt Charleston ?

If your going to head North to Tonopah, do not forget to stop in Beatty, NV at the Goldwell Open Air Museum - https://goldwellmuseum.org/

Hwy 6 East out of Tonopah to Hwy 375 South is some drive. Very scenic, no traffic, very minimal life. For much of the drive, we thought we were very alone in the universe
Have you been to Lake Powell, Petrified Forest, Painted Desert, Montezuma's Castle, Monument Valley, Navajo and/or Hopi Reservations, Show Low, Pinetop/Lakeside, Hannagen Meadow (maybe not the best place to go in January)?
Hey Lisa,
Aren't some of those things closer to Phoenix rather than Vegas, Show Low Az ?
I drove through Payson on my way there and it was quite a hike from Phoenix.
All in Northern Arizona. It would be a 1 or 2 night trip away from Vegas to visit most of these.
