I really need your help! Just returned from a Holland America Cruise (Nieuw Amsterdam) where I won a $2K video poker jackpot (4,4s plus kicker, triple double bonus $1 machine). The casino manager told me "federal law" required them to file an IRS tax form, even though I won the money in international waters. I asked what the specific "federal law" was and they could not answer me. I refused to provide my SS# and they refused to pay me my $2K. This is NOT about me wanting to avoid paying taxes. I know full well I must report all income regardless of where I earned/won it. This IS about tax law and principle, however. I don't know what to do at this point and would very much appreciate your advice/opinion. I am out $2K and a new tax year is starting on top of that. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Sometime ago, some casinos experimented with providing food service at slot machines. I believe at least one downtown casino had tried it. But we never heard much more about that experience. Can you provide an update?

Do all the Caesars Entertainment hotels now charge an early check-in fee? I visit regularly, stay at their no-resort-fee hotels, and was surprised in December at Planet Hollywood that it was $25 to check in before noon and $15 from noon until 3:00 p.m. Are they trying to make up for the loss in resort fees that the MRI hotels are charging?

The current LVA newsletter mentioned MGM’s CityCenter selling 427 condo units at Veer to a New York investment firm for an average price of $279,000. Are all the units purchased studio units or one- or two-bedroom units? And will the new owners plan to do with these recently acquired units?

I heard that the employee dining room and three or four restaurants at the Gold Nugget were closed by the Health Department for "imminent threats to health." In a word, what the heck?

The QOD regarding expansion at the M Resort made me wonder about ownership of the Colorado Belle and Edgewater casinos in Laughlin. My recollection is that the Marnell family bought them from MGM Mirage for the purpose of giving Anthony Marnell III operational experience before the M was finished. The murky part is if these properties were given up to Penn during their purchase of the M. Can you provide any light into this dark corner of the universe?

In a recent QOD you said: "Revel, Atlantic City’s new, $2.4 billion megaresort seems almost certain to go bankrupt not only due to its price tag: Customers are avoiding it like the plague." Can you elaborate as to why "Customers are avoiding it like the plague"??
