What is required to become a Vegas cabbie? Is everyone an owner-operator or can you drive for a company or another individual? I currently drive a cab in suburban Chicago and have for 12 years, but am interested in relocating to Las Vegas. I did spend four months there in 2002 and in fact have a valid sheriff's card as I was briefly employed in another job (unrelated). My knowledge of Vegas streets is limited; however, I possess some knowledge, can read a map, and am a quick learner. I have heard that you need a year's residency in Vegas to be considered -- is that true? Any advice you have on how to proceed would be appreciated.
