I'm from the East Coast and for breakfast many of us enjoy "creamed chipped beef on toast." But I've been coming out to Vegas since the early '70s and had never seen it on a menu anywhere. That's until I discovered one place and one place only that serves this meal every morning -- would you believe the 24-hour coffee shop at the Monte Carlo? It is very, very good ... not quite as good as back home, but a welcome sight on the menu. My question is whether you or any of your local members know of any other places that serve creamed chipped beef. I'd be most interested to try the alternatives, if there are any.

Las Vegas seems like a good city for renting a bicycle or a moped to get around on. It's flat. The streets are wide and most seem to have sidewalks. There are so many tourists that bike and moped rental agencies must be common. And if so, rental prices must be reasonable. Is this correct?

I saw on an old Casino Diaries episode that comps are computed by a percentage of your "expected loss," given your average bet, number of hands, and house advantage. Suppose three players walk up to a blackjack table, buy in for $10,000, and play $100 a hand for one hour. One goes broke, one wins $10,000, and one breaks even. Theoretically, all earn the same "comp value." However, in real life, wouldn't the casino give the standard comp to the breakeven player, a larger comp to the player who lost the $10,000, and the biggest comp to the player who won?

We're coming to Vegas in October and are wondering what the check-cashing policy is in Las Vegas. I do not want to carry a lot of cash and travelers checks can be a pain. I would like to go into a casino and cash a check for $500 and then if I need more, can I cash another check in a different casino on the same day? Here in Illinois, the casinos all seemed to be linked to a service and you can only cash checks for up to $499.

What ever happened to the LV Metro PD "police scanner" on the Web? Prior to visiting, I liked to listen while working to get a "feel" for the town and crime levels. The link is gone from the department Web site.

Every time we're in Las Vegas, we make it a point of having a drink at the bar at the Ranch Steakhouse, at the top of Binion's. The ride up in the glass elevator we think is one of the great free thrills in town. Are there any other glass elevators that go to the top floors of Las Vegas hotels?
