I will be coming to Las Vegas over Halloween and I’m wondering how the casinos will react to allowing people wearing costumes and masks into their property due to the recent massacre.
Halloween is one of this city's favorite parties, when Las Vegas gets the chance to out-weird itself with something for everyone — from teeny trick or treaters to hardcore fetishists.
That said, the costume parties and contests tend to take place in the lounges and nightclubs and though it’s permissible to wear costumes in casinos, you cannot wear masks of any kind, not even eye masks, and most don’t allow paint that obscures facial features beyond recognition, even if you’re just passing through. We’ve heard that some downtown casinos have a higher tolerance for face paint than on the Strip, but don’t quote us.
Now, we’re sure we’ll hear from people who’ve gotten away with wearing masks in casinos. However, that’s probably because security was so busy kicking out other people in masks.
And as you rightly point out, this Halloween, security will probably be especially skittish, so we’d be very careful about a costume that includes any kind of fake or simulated weapon.
The nightclubs, too, have guidelines for costumes. If you’re not in a costume, the regular dress code applies. Like the casinos, full face masks are strictly prohibited, though most tolerate eye masks. Security might ask you to remove a partial mask when checking your identification, especially if there’s a question about your face matching the photo on the ID.
