One time way back in 1990 or so, we went to try a burger special at the little Nob Hill casino, located at center Strip. It was a great deal and we were excited that it could fill a spot in the Top Ten in the upcoming Advisor, due out in a week or so.
Well, between the time we sampled the burger and the newsletter deadline, not only did the deal disappear, but so did the whole casino! The joint closed that same week and reopened a few years later as Casino Royale.
Moral of the story: Things change fast around here.
Which is why we’re starting an Updates page. Rather than having to wait ’til the newsletter is published on the last day of the month, we’ll be posting as these things occur. You can check back here to see what might have happened to deals, meals, promotions, Top Tenners, even entire casinos since we last covered them.
This page also gives you a preview of the way we’ll be handling and presenting information after the switch to the new paid-subscription website — posting content regularly as we learn about, and/or experience things that we want to write about and review. And we’re out there, going and doing, every single day.

The Cantina Bonus

The new El Dorado Cantina has opened at 6050 Sky Pointe Dr. in the northwest part of Las Vegas. It’s called simply The Cantina. There’s a play-$250-get-$50 sign-up bonus, but it’s the same card as El Dorado Sunset, so you can’t get that bonus if you’re already a member. However, The Cantina is currently running the same promos as El Dorado Cantina and you can do both on the same day — 100/20 on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the same deal all day Mondays. Also, food is half-price for everyone, at least through the end of August. Don’t be confused, the bar is attached to the Jade Dispensary in what appears to be some kind of branding deal, but they’re separate businesses with no access from the inside.
Updated August 18, 2025
Lucky 7s Bonus
The Lucky 7s slot house at 10940 S. Eastern Ave. in Henderson is offering a play-$50-get-$50 bonus to celebrate its opening. Updated June 9, 2025
The Bar Bonus
We checked the four-to-the-royal promotion at The Bar locations and the bonus doesn’t bring the return to breakeven. There’s no reason to make an effort to play this one.

Eldorado Cantina Bonus Adds Days
El Dorado Cantina Sunset is running its play-$100-get-$20 bonus on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays. Saturday and Sunday have just been added, but it cuts off at 4 p.m. both days. Mondays run all day. Also, locals get 50% off all food items on Mondays.
Updated May 11, 2025
The Bar Bonus (Amended)
We checked this out and the information we put up on May 10 wasn’t completely accurate. The Bar Center Pointe (10300 W. Charleston) is running a play-$500-get-$50 bonus 1 to 5 a.m. and 1 to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays in May. This was the location listed in the ad we saw, so it appears it’s the only one in the group that’s running the promo. We’ll update if we find out otherwise, but it’s definitely not offered at the Durango/Tropicana and Flamingo/Grand Canyon bars.
Tavern Bonus Altered
We didn’t think this one would last and it hasn’t. We’re told that the deal at the Tavern (see April) is now play-$500-get-$50. Hours are the same.
April Updates
Updated April 29, 2025
Tavern Bonus
The Tavern (1113 S. Rainbow) is running a play-$100-get-$100 bonus Mon.-Wed. from 4 to 5 am only. There’s also a 20/20 sign-up bonus, so new players won’t waste a trip if this one disappears.
Updated April 14, 2025

As promised, Jackpot Bar has resumed its bonus. It’s still play-$500-get-$50, but on Wednesdays only.
Scoundrels Bonus
Scoundrels Tavern & Eatery (6310 N. Lamb Blvd.) is running a 1,500/100 bonus Mon.-Fri. from midnight to 4 p.m. in April. Parlay with the good $20 steak dinner on Tuesdays that’s served starting at 3 p.m.

Jackson’s Taxable Bonus
Bring a W-2G you’ve received from a taxable jackpot at any bar or casino and get 10% of the amount in free-play at Jackson’s. The maximum bonus is $500, with the first $100 in FP awarded immediately and the balance available within 24 hours. Maximum two redemptions per week. This promo is for April only.
March Updates

Jackpot Bonus
Jackpot Bar and Grille is running a play-$500-get-$50 bonus on Sundays and Wednesdays. On Wednesdays it runs concurrently with additional wheel-spin bonuses.
Updated March 8, 2025
Jackson’s Bounceback
Play $1,500 coin-in on Mondays at Jackson’s and get $100 free-play on Tuesdays in March. It’s use-it-or-lose-it on Tuesday, so make sure you’ll be able to get back. This is a low 6.67% premium, but it’s a good opportunity to start getting established there for future promos. We don’t think the four-previous-visits requirement is in effect, but if you’re new, confirm that you’ll get the bonus before you play and we’ll verify that Monday.
Sammy’s March Madness Promo
This is a good one at Sammy’s Woodfire Pizza (6500 W. Sahara). In 6500 Tavern, the bar that’s part of the restaurant, everyone with a Sammy’s players card gets to pick a team for the NCAA Basketball Tournament. Every time that team advances, you win free-play, starting with $5 and maxing out at a total of $185 if your team wins the championship. You get to pick your team, it’s not assigned. Duke and Auburn come to mind. Additionally, this is one of the best instacomps in town: Players get anything on the menu 50%-off.
February Updates
Updated February 23, 2025

Lodge Bonus Cut Back
The play-$200-get-$20 bonus at Mangos Beach Bar (also Brewskes Bar & Grille) is no longer offered on Sundays. You can now play it once per day (not at both) Mon.-Thurs. only.
Updated February 2, 2025
Jackson’s Bonus
We expected the Sunday play-$350-get-$50 bonus at Jackson’s to run through the Super Bowl, but it’s been discontinued. In its place, all natural quads with a minimum wager of $1.25, or a keno jackpot of $200 or more, get a Super Bowl square. There will be as many boards as needed, and each is giving away a total of $2,000 in free-play, which means the square is worth $20. The bonus raises the return to about 100.5% on quarter 6/5 Bonus Poker. Not a bonanza, but the best bar hangout play in town.

Updated August 18, 2024
Bonfire Bonus
The Bonfire bar at 610 E. Naples near UNLV is running a daily $20 bonus. Sign up for a card and play, at least $20, and they’ll text you the following day with a $20-per-day free-play bonus (you won’t get it the first day). The subsequent day(s) bonus usually rings up shortly after you start playing, but sometimes doesn’t and you have to ask the bartender. It’s a bit awkward and it doesn’t appear that the deal will be continued in September, but you have nearly two weeks left as of this post. It’s a cool bar, with live bands and a happy hour daily from 2 to 7 pm, with 50%-off drinks and appetizers.

June Updates
Updated June 18, 2024
Tuscany Bonus Revamp
Boom. Several elements of the Tuscany sign-up bonus have just been changed. There’ve been ferocious lines at the club booth, so they must have been getting hit hard, as these changes seem to indicate. The deal is now essentially a $50 free-play bonus for new members. When you sign up you get $40, plus $10 for an email address, with no additional requirements. After that, it’s possible to get another $50 on each of two separate trips, tut now there’s a requirement to earn 250 points ($500 coin-in) for each. That’s a 10% bonus and still a good deal, but nothing like it was. Additionally, there’s a head-scratching 7-day wait between return redemptions for non-locals. Here’s the new rules sheet sent in by an LVA member for those who want to jump through the hoops.

Updated June 18, 2024
Downtown Grand Video Poker Overhaul
We knew that the announcement that the Downtown Grand was getting all new machines wasn’t good news. Sure enough, the machines at the Furnace Bar are new and sparkly, but the paytables have been significantly devalued. Of greatest consequence, the former 9/5 Double Double Bonus 4-way progressive is now an 8/5 3-way. Previously almost always in the 100% range, it was at 98.85% when we checked. Also gone is 8/5 Bonus Poker, devalued to 7/5 (98.01%).
Updated June 10, 2024
Tuscany Bonus Details
As of now, the Tuscany new-member promo is scheduled to run through the end of June, so you have to do it with at least three days remaining in the month to get full value. There has to be at least 24 hours between redemptions and you have to visit the club booth to get the free-play activated each time. We haven’t verified this, but we’re told you have to make a real-money play before getting the bonus; we received a report that playing $5 is sufficient.

Vic’s Bonus Missing
Vic’s claims that it’s continuing its play-$100-get-$20 bonus in March along with the March Madness squares, but we’ve been there twice and the free-play isn’t registering. They claim it’s a programing glitch and that bonuses will be added on if you give them your name. But those kinds of promises are 50/50 at best.
MRO Updates
Updated February 16, 2024
There are two updates of note for Member Rewards Online offers. The redemption process for the Palms buffet twofer has been altered slightly in that you must now go to the club booth to have the voucher stamped before taking it to the buffet to redeem. Vic’s Squares
Here’s more from Vic’s. Along with the daily $100/$20 deal, you get a Super Bowl square for every 4-of-a-kind. The equity in the square is $11. That raises the return on 6/5 Bonus Poker to 99.47%. Good play for beers in a cool setting and they’re liberal on food comps, though the action required isn’t defined. Parking is a problem; you usually have to park in the adjacent garage, but the charge is usually $1-$2 after validating at the bar.

South Point Garden Buffet: All buffet prices have gone up by $1. The Friday seafood and prime rib dinner buffet is half an exception, staying the same at the regular price ($49.95), but club members pay $1 more than before at $45.95 . The seafood buffet’s opening time has also been moved up an hour to 3 p.m. and we hear the line is a lot shorter due to the change; it still closes at 9 p.m.

Peter Luger steakhouse at Caesars Palace was supposed to debut a week from Wednesday, but to everyone’s surprise, it opened on Thursday, two weeks early. One of the oldest restaurant brands in the country, it dates back to the 1880s in New York, where it has two locations; the Vegas venue is the first beyond the Empire State. The prices are stratospheric: appetizers $15-$35; seafood cocktails $30-$40; seafood towers $96 (for two); chicken $45, lamb chops $75, Dover sole $90, and steaks starting at $72; sides and desserts $15. The restaurant is open daily to 10 p.m. and for lunch Wed.-Sun. at 11 a.m.; two lunch specials are a burger ($25) and steak sandwich ($30).

Bacon Nation, the one-of-a-kind “coffee shop with a bacon hook” at the D downtown, has shortened its hours. When it opened last year, it was 24/7. Now it’s only 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Still 16 hours a day, but no longer a late-night play. We reviewed it in the January 2023 LVA and gave it a good one.

The price of the shrimp cocktail at the Skyline casino on Boulder Hwy. has been raised by 99¢ to $3.49. This offer will be removed from the Top Ten.
Updated August 24, 2023
We wrote about Sgrizzi Pizza in the January 2023 Advisor. It was in the Ahern non-casino hotel (formerly the Lucky Dragon), a small pizza outlet next to Marc’s Trattoria, run by Marc Sgrizzi, owner-chef at several well-known eateries in town, including Marc’s World Cuisine and Parma. We liked the Sgrizzi pizza so much that we returned a few weeks ago and sure enough, both Sgrizzi and the Trattoria were gone. The room is now called Ottimo and against our better judgment, we tried their pie. We should’ve trusted our intuition; the pizza was instantly forgettable and that’s putting it mildly. Marc’s Ristorante & Bar will reportedly open by the end of the year at 9250 S. Rainbow Blvd. #130.

Rod Stewart Announces Final Dates for Long Residency: British rocker Rod Stewart launched his residency at Caesars Palace in 2011 and after 13 years is calling it quits. “Rod Stewart – The Hits” will conclude with the performer’s 200th show next summer. The final dates that have just been added are July 24, 26, 27, and 31 and Aug. 2, 3, and 7. Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. PT. A few tickets also remain for Stewart’s dates this month: Nov. 10, 11, 15, 17, 18, and 22 (though we don’t recommend coming to Vegas for the last four shows during the height of the FU F1 misery).

RIP Dirk Arthur: Dirk Arthur, a mainstay Las Vegas headliner, illusionist, and big-cat performer of days gone by, died in Las Vegas last Friday at age 63 of an apparent heart attack. Arthur began his career in Las Vegas in the 1990s and continued to perform up until 2015 at Westgate in Dirk Arthur’s Wild Illusions. After that, animal-rights activism pretty much ended any chance he might have had to ply his big-animal trade on stage here. Still, he kept his big cats at his home, struggling to care for them and himself without much income. A fellow performer and animal-refuge proprietor told VitalVegas’ Scott Roeben, “I do not believe my friend Dirk died of a heart attack, but rather of a broken heart.” Scott knew Arthur personally and you can read his eulogy and see a few photos here.
