Since You Asked — Hash House A Go Go

Continuing my theme of Las Vegas food institutions, this post pays homage to Hash House A Go Go.

I’m sure many of you are familiar with it, whether it’s the location on the Strip (the Linq), downtown (the Plaza), off-Strip (the Rio or West Sahara Avenue), local (Summerlin or Henderson), or or one of the several out-of-town locations. In the recent LVA poll on the best locals breakfasts, Hash House A Go Go placed second in the survey, with 13% of the vote; only the venerable Peppermill surpassed it.

Since You Asked — Thanksgiving between Two Pieces of Bread

Are you a friend of the TV show “Friends”? Have you always wanted to try Ross’ Thanksgiving leftover sandwich? Well, you can (sort of).

If you don’t venture off the Strip much, you may not be familiar with legendary Vegas sub shop Capriotti’s. There are about a dozen locations across the Vegas Valley; the most convenient ones are on Sahara west of the Strip (in the same strip mall as Golden Steer steakhouse) and on Paradise, across the street from the Virgin (formerly the Hard Rock).

Since You Asked — Hotel Hopping Part 2

In my post last week, I discussed switching hotels for fun and practical reasons. Click on the link if you haven’t read it.

In this week’s post, I offer up some tips on how to minimize the logistical hassles of moving from one hotel to another at least once and up to several times during a trip to Las Vegas.

Since You Asked — Hotel Hopping

Every Vegas-goer is at different stages in their Vegas “careers.” I’m 49 years old and semi-retired, so a Vegas trip now is different for me than it was 20 years ago or even 10.

I love the sun, the pools, and the warm weather. That always used to be part of the appeal of Las Vegas for me. I spent most of my life living on Long Island, where pool season runs from late May/early June until late August/early September. But now I live in Florida, where pool season runs from late January until early January.

Since You Asked —Taking Photographs

After making more than 50 trips to Las Vegas, which add up to more than a year of my life spent there, I’ve ventured far off the beaten path. In this post, I’d like to offer some tips on some of the best places in the Valley to take great photographs.

It may seem obvious and it’s most certainly not off the beaten path, but one of the best places to pull out your camera is the Bellagio Conservatory. The displays change seasonally, so you’re almost always likely to see something new, and the Bellagio artists do beautiful things with flowers. I’ve got tons and tons of great pictures of the conservatory; these are just a couple of favorites.

Since You Asked — The Rat Pack Is Back

Usually, when a show bounces around from venue to venue, it’s a bad sign. It can mean that attendance is insufficient, or the casino isn’t promoting it well, or the space doesn’t work for the show. None of these reasons is usually overcome by moving to another venue — if the show actually does move. More times that not, when a show closes, the producers state that they say they’re “looking for a new home.” Then, it’s never heard from again.

One exception is The Rat Pack is Back. Before the shutdown in mid-March, it ws playing at the slightly off-Strip Tuscany. Previously, it appeared at the Plaza and the now-defunct Greek Isles, among other places. If that doesn’t seem like a stellar resumé, don’t be misled. It’s a really fun and enjoyable show.
