Name the song the line is from Part II

Tony, you are right about Montego Bay...google says two sang it...Amazulu and Bobby Bloom.
But the thread title is 'Name the song the line is from' so I missed on the part that doesn't count.

Yep - you got the song name which is what counted.
What I was responding to was Jims comment - The American artist died in 1974 -
which kinda excluded Mungo Gerry.
If it didn't land in Europe, I'm kinda hooped - and I don't think that this version did.
Mungo did do a great vesion though!

Just to clarify, Montego Bay was co-written by Bobby Bloom. He was the first artist to record and release the song, in 1970, just four years before his untimely demise in 1974, at the age of 28.

As I mentioned in my original post, Bobby’s 1970 single did well on both sides of the pond, but was actually a bigger hit in the UK (#3) than in the US (#8).

According to this source, cover versions of Montego Bay have been recorded by several different artists and groups over the years. Note that Mungo Jerry is not among those listed.

I’ve searched several Mungo Jerry websites and discographies, as well as YouTube, and can find no evidence of a cover version ever being recorded by Mungo Jerry. That doesn’t necessarily mean that they didn’t do one but, if they did, I can’t find it.

Anyway, Phil identified the song, which is all that’s really required.

Tony, I'm thinking about your latest lyrics. Sorry to say that, so far, they don't sound familiar.

"but while he dreamed of a rose covered home"

Sorry sweetheart- don't ring a red rose bell with me neither-
how about some clues or more lyrics??
Tony,
i do respect and admire your musical intellegence, you are a most worth opponant in this game. It's taken me too long to say that- but you are a wonderful addition to LVA and our silly but fun game

Thanks - I appreciate that

Here are a couple of lines from earlier in the song - hopefully more recognizable -

He tried to seduce her, said he'd introduce her
To all of the Beatles and Stones

No - isn't that a great line though -

"with hurry-home drops on her cheeks that trickled from her eyes"

All of his songs had great meter (although most weren't as poetic as that line).

Here is another line from the song -

But we were pulled apart because her mom would not agree
