Name the song the line is from Part II

That's Memphis, Tennessee, originally by Chuck Berry and covered by...everybody.

Some 60s, starting with one line:

You're shiftless and you're lazy

Thats "Dominque" by the Singing Nun...final answer

Tough one -
I think that this is the opening line of the song,
Motown,
Girl group

Still thinking about this one . . .

Motown girl group is correct, Tony! Think 1967.

A few more lines:

You're shiftless and you're lazy
Just like that hound dog, Daisy
I had when Grandma raised me

Thanks Jim - Got it.

Couple of extra clues/comments on this one -

It was never a hit.
It was never released as a single - but was released as a B side.
But it was recorded by American Icons on what was probably their most significant album - and - in my mind at least - one of the hottest albums of their generation.

Am I setting myself up for a bomb here?

And when I awoke and felt you warm and near,
I kissed your honey hair, with my grateful tears,

Tonyrob

It’s driving me nuts. That’s such a pretty song and it’s on a CD I keep in my car. I should know the name, but I can’t think of it.

That was a very pretty song indeed, by Simon and Garfunkel. I never understood why it wasn't a bigger hit.

I feel like you should get part of the credit for this one, Cyndee -- you just couldn't quite remember the title. It was For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her. It showcased Garfunkel's voice beautifully. Good one, Tony!

Next, I liked this British duo. This song didn’t do so well for them at home, but it arrived in the US at the height of the so-called “British Invasion,” and climbed to #7 on the US charts:

She hurt me so much inside, now I hope she’s satisfied
