Oops. Missed this earlier. Didn't realize you had edited your post, Tony.

Still, all I can say is I don't know the song. Sorry.

No problem.
Here is a REALLY easy one - that EVERYONE will know!!! How's that for a kiss of death?

Love to kick my feet way down the shallow water

Sorry, Tony. I'm afraid I can't answer that one because it's too easy.

Good one! It's Green River, by CCR.

This one is from 1968. Back then, I couldn't figure out what the lyrics were all about. I still can't:

You said no strings could secure you at the station
Platform ticket, restless diesels, goodbye windows

Were we supposed to figure them out, Jim? I didn’t even try. But I did listen enough to recognize that one. It’s “White Room” by Cream.

Let’ see, where else can we go?

But something happened on the way to that place
They threw an American flag in our face

Dang. I was really hoping that someone would be able to explain the White Room lyrics to me. I've been told that the song is about hopelessness and despair.

Coincidentally, those things are also a part of the song you selected, which I really like. It's Allentown, by Billy Joel.

This is from 1984. It's an American artist, but the song did well in the UK (#5) as well as the US (#6). One line should probably do it:

At night I wake up with the sheets soakin' wet

That would be Mr Springsteen - I'm on Fire.

White Room Lyrics - Lots of people were guessing that it was about going to Vietnam, but word around the studios was that it was about Cocaine addiction - and it was written at the time that Clapton had a fairly big Cocaine habit.

It's strange but it's true,
I can't get over the way you love me like you do,

Here is a whole verse -

But life still goes on
I can't get used to, living without, living without
Living without you by my side
I don't want to live alone, hey
God knows, got to make it on my own
So baby can't you see

Mid eighties - Only reached 48 on US charts but charted for 8 weeks.
Made top 5 in most countries.
Interesting that, apart from spinning off from an album it was also releases as a single on 7" vinyl, 12" vinyl and 2 sizes of CD. Since appeared on a couple more albums and became a concert favourite for this band.

OK - Looks like that won't work.

Song was I Want to Break Free by Queen.
Here is a great live version -

I'll leave it open as I will be out for quite a while tomorrow

Goodnight all

An English band took this song to #4 in the US in 1968, but it failed to chart in the UK. It wasn't until a different English band covered this song in 1999 (!) that it finally charted in the UK...at #2!

I got a certain little girl, she's on my mind
No doubt about it she looks so fine
She's the best girl I ever had
Sometimes she's gonna make me feel so bad

Nah, nah-nah-nah, nah-nah-nah, nah-nah-nah

I've listened to both the 1968 and 1999 versions, and they're the same song alright.

Sounds like Hush - Deep Purple.

Leaving it open as I will be out for the next few hours
