So your solution is to test all 375 million Americans if they are showing symptoms or not? Logistically this would take years. It also would'nt do any good since someone could test negative and then catch it the next day and need to be retested. It also is probabaly against the 4th amendment. I think if you think logically you'd see the way Trumps advisers want it done makes the most sense. I think Hillary would have been smart enough to also use this method.
Actually, it could be done fairly quickly. Think back to how quickly the population was vaccinated when measles, mumps, TB, polio, etc. vaccines became available. Today, we have much better logistics and technology. The coronavirus test could be administered with about the same degree of commitment and effort. And yes, labs would be backed up for a while. That's why the Trump administration should have prepared for this two months ago.
The benefit of testing would be to enable the isolation of those who are carrying the virus. And yes, I think that quarantine should be mandatory. A person would have to be quite an irresponsible jerkwad to know he is infected and go out in public, and that should be illegal just as and for the same reason as driving down the wrong side of the freeway is illegal.
I don't think the Fourth Amendment would come up except among the Cliven Bundy types--after all, wouldn't a reasonable person want to know if he/she is infected?--but there wouldn't be much risk in letting those few people refuse to be tested. The government should pay for all testing. Period.
Trump's advisors do have a logical and reasonable plan, given the lateness of Trump's response and the near-impossibility of containment at this point. The question now is whether Trump will fuck that up somehow. He spent all weekend running around raving about the CDC, CNN, the Democrats, "hoaxes," and how liberals made up the coronavirus in order to make him look bad. He has quite a few bolts not torqued down.
