I have been researching Isla Mujeres for the last few days since you recommended it. From what I can tell, it looks cheaper than Cancun and more authentic. Am I correct in that conclusion? Yeah, I'd love some recommendations on places to stay.
In Cancun, the all-inclusive was looking appealing because food and drinks appear to be expensive in the hotel zone but from what I have seen on Google it looks like there are lots of cheap dining options on Isla Mujeres. My only fear is would there be enough to keep a 27-year-old entertained there? I could spend all week on the beach drinking and relaxing but baby craves non-stop adventure and excitement. As much as I'd like to pretend I can still keep up with her, the reality is she is going to need a lot of fun things to do and see to keep her happy.
Perhaps a 6-day trip spending three in Cancun and three on Isla Mujeres might work out for us? That way I'd have 3 days to run her battery down so I could enjoy three laid-back days with her.
If you're looking for an action packed location, Isla Mujeres isn't your place. As you suggest, 3 days in Cancun and 3 on Isla might work. Most isla bars are closed by midnight.
What is you daily budget for food, beverage, and accomodations on Isla? Also, when are you going, as accomodations increase about 35% around middle December, and stay high through February, so keep that in mind. I'll be on Isla Dec 4-11. If you happen to be there then, I'd be more than happy to show you around. I'll have a golf cart.
Once I have your budet..............floor and ceiling..........I'll give you suggestions on accomodations. If you decide to pull the trigger on Isla, then I'll give you suggest restaurants and watering holes.
Good luck and enjoy wherever you decide to go.
