How 'bout That CoronaVirus

Actually, yes, that does indeed prove that the justice system is racist, and that simple fact has been pointed out by a lot of folks besides "Obama and friends." And yes, there have been dozens of studies showing systematic racial discrimination in lending. I don't know about the firefighter tests, or if your assertion about that is true.

You don't have to continually put on your Nasty Old White Man cap. Our society's institutions are still very much racist, and systematic racism affects the lives of black people everywhere in this country. To deny or belittle the problem is both stupid and an act of ignorant assholery.

Hope that we continue to evolve on racism . That It becomes a non-issue in “who” gets equal justice. Equal opportunities are on an equal playing field. We have made strides but have a long ways to go.

It's often subtle rather than overt. Take Boilerman's comment about "Obama and friends." He's implying that only black people object to injustice against blacks. He also implied that the systematic injustice against black people is something that black people made up.

The trouble is, he really believes those things. As do a lot of old white people who grew up in a more ignorant time.

Just curious, how did a discussion about a virus traced to a village in China devolve into this?

See, no benign exchange of ideas can survive in Kitchen Sink.  Somebody will always hijack it to their purposes, which are hardly related at all.

Boilerman brought it up, making some snide remark about how liberals think quarantining people by race is racist...and I should have just let it go.

I think there can be a benign exchange of ideas, as you put it, but only if the nasty old white men can get off their soapboxes. I doubt that anyone wants to hear the same old same old--people on public assistance are freeloading bums, black people are just whining crybabies, liberals want SOOOOCIALISM, the Second Amendment gives everyone the right to own weapons that can kill hundreds of people, anyone who wants immigration reform is obviously in favor of open borders, Trump is just being Trump, and there's no such thing as climate change, I know, Exxon Mobil told me so.

The nasty old white men so desperately want everyone to believe the things they do that they inject one of these conservative mantras into every conversation...about anything. Start out talking about the merits of a pizza parlor and you find the conversation diverted to the liberal deep state in no time at all.

While the nasty old white men are generally not very intelligent, there's one thing they understand. The best way to propagate lies is to say them--to shout them--over and over and over and over and over. It has an intended numbing effect. Look how effective that was in the 2016 election!

The nasty old white men are askeered. They know their numbers are declining and their dominance of American society is coming to an end. That's why Trump won--he falsely promised a return to the good old days. You know, when the wimmenfolk knew their place, them darkies weren't so uppity, there was none a' this liburrul nonsense like pollution controls and free healthcare, and men were men by gawd. Them Messkins stayed in the fields and we could kick 'em out whenever we felt like it. Those were the days!

So the short answer is--the reason why these discussions get hijacked is that some conservative type always seizes an opportunity to shout out one of the above right-wing "truths"--even if utterly unrelated to the discussion. And of course, there are the discussions that start out as political, which when Trumpers get involved, are pretty much hopeless as far as a rational exchange of ideas is concerned.

Poor old DonDiego has initiated "Corona Virus Thread #2" in hopes of restricting unrelated-political-discussions from a discussion of a potential serious medical matter.

F'rinstance, so far as DonDiego has been able to determine the subject virus does not discriminate based upon race.

I doubt that that will dissuade any of our Trumpers from introducing political commentary, but sure, why not.

You can't quarantine for this virus. It is already here. Those five people have already spread it to people they were in contact with here in the U.S. before they knew they had it. And those people they infected are currently spreading it to others.

Mark, I believe that you are incorrect.  Many have been quarantined over the past months.  History is a bitch.

Given how much Trump hates China and everybody who lives on the West Coast, he probably had the virus manufactured in some underground lab and then sneaked it into China. As the vast majority of air traffic from China lands in West Coast airports, this is a perfect way for Trump to kill Chinese people and liberals at the same time!

Kevin, apparantly Trump didn't pass the virus to China, and your December comment appears to address your position that the virus' origin was China.  History is a bitch.

Does this nonsense get you off?

Boilerman's comment is a truthful summation of what you wrote. Try and lie your way out of that.
