I have already made my plans to escape this shithole. In ten years I will be retired in Southeast Asia or dead, Interesting that mark wants to move to totalitarian countries.
so I won't be too upset if Trump and the Republicans overthrow the legitimate government of the United States. If the republicans win, what makes it an illegitimate government?
Well, . . . here it is, . . . Wednesday, November 4th.
Good morning to everyone !
DonDiego thanks those who were concerned that DonDiego would be "upset" if President Trump lost; they may rest easy.
Surprisingly, . . . poor old DonDiego is not upset at all. The Sun rose on time this morning, and the World seems pretty much the same as when the Sun set yesterday. Settin' on his front porch, poor old DonDiego observes the greenway across from him remains lovely in the sunlight, . . . and the hills in the distance are showing some Fall colors.
All-in-all, . . . another pleasant day, . . .
So far the only difference in poor old DonDiego's life, post-election, is that he chose to make his coffee half-decaf and half-regular this morning, . . . instead of his usual caffeine-free. He has noticed no ill-effects; in fact, the Fall colors may be a mite brighter.
I was remembering the past (like '50s, early 60s), when, as a kid if you could stay up 'til midnight you would learn who won all the elections. Pres/VP, Governor, Senate, House, city directors, sheriff, school board seats, etc. I mostly didn't care who won but it was fun, getting to stay up late, a treat for a kid in that time period.
My dad served on our school board for several terms. I remember dozens of congratulatory telegrams arriving at the house on election night, almost like Christmas. Like a flurry of fan mail. Those were some joyous moments, to think so many folks thought so highly of my dad.
Are telegrams used anymore?
In the '50s my dad had been transferred by his job to our city. While waiting to secure a house they put us up at one of the big downtown hotels for a couple weeks, which coincidentally happened to be election night central for the Democratic party. Us kids (2, 7, 11, 16) got to hang over the balcony and watch the festivities...for a few minutes. They were winning (Governor for one, I think); lots of confetti and cheering and dancing and a big punch bowl, I recall. Wonder what was in that punch?

Trump has already said he plans to overthrow the government if Biden wins.

I grew up in the Sixties in a very liberal area, and my memories of election periods and the elections themselves are colored by JFK and RFK being gunned down (along with MLK), along with all the civil unrest and partisan rancor. So this election cycle has been more than a little reminiscent of those times for me, with Trump playing wannabe banana republic dictator, protest marches everywhere, and redneck yahoo assholes waving their GUNZ at people.
Whatever celebrations we have will be more like sighs of relief, especially if the Republiholes retain control of the Senate, as seems likely, and our government deteriorates into gridlock. They won't let anything Biden wants pass and will be very happy to shut down the government over and over when they don't get their way.

I would give you a link to a video clip, but you already know damn well what he said, and as I've told you before, you don't deserve such attention and aren't worth the trouble.

Sorry, Tom, I missed this earlier. I think you made an interesting point. The distinction I make between those countries and ours is that they are on the rise in freedoms and economic prospects while our country is spiraling downward in terms of economic parity, racial equality and civil rights.
For example, a young adult in Thailand has unlimited economic potential. It is easy for them to set-up a one-person business and become self-sufficient. While we have turned our society into one that is dominated by large corporations that stifle competition and squeeze the economic life and well-being out of most American citizens.
In Thailand right now they are protesting for greater political autonomy. In the United States, right now half of all voters want more totalitarian fascism including you. So, for me, it is a matter of which locations are on an upward trajectory. Oh, and an economy not dominated by large corporations allows for inexpensive quality housing and a lower overall cost of living.
They have an amazing public transportation system too. And they are going all-in on green technology with infrastructure for electric cars and solar power generation. Plus, they have a functioning public healthcare system that can control a viral pandemic unlike us.
Mark, I had a friend (who was killed by the virus) who spent a month in Thailand in the 70s and said that ever since then, he had wanted to go back there on a permanent basis. He said it was paradise and an income that would barely keep you alive in the US could let you live like a king in Thailand.
Throw in beautiful beaches, a very friendly people, the best goddamn cuisine in the world, and the increased ability to work remotely from anywhere in the world---you just might have a winner. It's something I've considered as well, especially since I've gotten sick of the high cost of living in anywhere in the US that's worthwhile.
