If a good vaccine is not found, how long are you willing to hide?

If I tried to hide, they find me anyway.  Mask and sanitizer and distancing notwithstanding, I'm in the process of paying:

 - Personal Property taxes

 - Real Estate taxes

 - Auto Insurance premiums

 - Home Owners premiums

 - 3-4 stops per week at local eateries (take out, right now)

 - Twice weekly (or more) grocery shopping

 - Co-pays for 2 surgeries, four clinic visits in the past 2 months (they love us)

 - Rx meds (admittedly not much thanks to health insurance premiums paid monthly)

 - Keeping vehicles gassed up

 - Cable bill

 - Electric bill

 - Gas bill

 - Water/waste collection bill

These alone, believe it or not, add up to quite a bit of money I'd rather have in my pocket.  But...

So I think I'm supporting the economy pretty well despite no vaccine yet.

With universal health care, one would not have to "control" one's access to medical care. It would simply exist. The present situation is not unlike one where one would have to make sure that one made regular and timely payments to the local police and fire departments; otherwise, calls to them would be ignored.

I do not wish DonDiego to be deprived of health care, but I cannot help but observe that if his employer had gone out of business, he had been laid off, etc. and he suddenly found himself without health insurance, he might understand the fundamental nature of the problem.

Boiler, it is odd, that you should bring this up. It is only because of the incompetence of your guy that we aren't ready to move on like the rest of the first world. Unfortunately, Trump never has got a handle on COVID-19  because he is incapable of seeing beyond his constant need for gratification. You might want to consider not complaining about a situation you helped contribute to by voting for this mentally ill idiot.

Collectively we are all stuck with the current plan of bend over and spread your cheeks until Trump is gone in January. Even then, it will take several months if not a year or more to clean up Trump's mess.  I expect conservatives to complain the whole time. They never take responsibility for their messes. They just wait for someone else to clean then them up. Then they complain about how that person cleans up their mess.

What specifically has Trump not done?

Candy, when I ask "how long will you hide", I'm asking how long will it be until you leave your home and socialize.

People just had to gather for the holidays, so now the virus is surging.  My 'careful' quotient is rising.  I'm not depriving myself, I go out for what I need.  I wouldn't call it hiding to avoid unnecessary gatherings, so that is my plan for the next couple weeks.  I wore masks every day at work before I retired so I don't mind masking at all.  You take care.

Boiler's question is a stupid, nasty one because he assumes that if you're not going out, you're "hiding." That also implies that anyone who doesn't go out and cough on other people, in service of the great Donald Trump, is a coward.

The Republican propaganda effort to stigmatize mask wearing is bearing fruit. Millions are infected. I never was a Trumper, but many others around me are---so I limit the duration and number of times I leave my house. It's only recently that I've seen even as many as half of the people around me wearing masks.

His duty as President.

Kevin, I didn't take Boilerman's question in any negative way.  It was just a question.

It sort of depends on where you live, doesn't it?

Right now in Arizona, the test positivity rate is over 30%. Assuming that's an accurate representation of the population, that means that if you get together with two people, chances are one of them is infected.

It was a loaded question, as is the title of this thread. It's not unlike "Do you still beat your wife?"

There's a logical term for a question that carries a false premise within it, but I forget what that term is. I do remember that it makes the question essentially unanswerable. The false premise in Boiler's question is that staying home and observing social distancing guidelines is "hiding."
