PJ, does Fauci consider the economic ramifications of his suggestions, or does he speak strictly on how to minimize virus deaths? How about other scientists? Do they have a broad view of the situation, or do they only evaluate one point of measure?
Here's an analogy. A stroke patient goes into a hospital. Doctors tell the guy that if he takes the drug tPA, he will likely regain some, most, or all the use of his left hand and arm. There is a catch however, as there is a 7% chance that the drug will cause internal bleading in the brain or stomach, leading to death. If he doesn't take the drug, his left arm will be useless for the balance of his life. I just read that 75% of patients experiencing an acute stroke decide to take the risk. Why would someone risk death? Well, I assume it's a quality of life vs risk of death value assessment.
Shut the economy down for a year, and the quality of life in the United States for a couple of hundred million people will suffer. Opening the economy is the prudent risk reward for the group. Kevin disagrees, and I fully support his decision to lock himself with Joe Biden in the basement. Of course, mommy will still serve Kevin TV dinner meals on a tray three times per day.
