It's pretty much a trope throughout American history, that those who arrived on last month's boat considered themselves to be true Americans and entitled to be here, while considering those arriving on the next boat to be feelthy immigrants who had no right to be here, or to exist, for that matter.

Typo on my part. 67,500 immigrants came to the US in 2022 legally. About 4% of the total.
