Now for the facts

The Reflecting Pool’s pre-renovation state drew criticism for its unattractive appearance and perceived neglect, with officials and visitors noting that the water looked “filthy” and did not reflect the iconic monuments clearly POLITICO POLITICO . The algae problem was particularly concerning ahead of major events, such as the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations, prompting emergency cleaning measures Yahoo Yahoo . In summary, before the renovation, the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was characterized by green, algae-filled water, maintenance difficulties, and a faded, worn appearance, which motivated the extensive repainting, sealing, and filtration upgrades completed in 2026 b17news.com b17news.com

The new blue paint is already peeling off Tom, so it doesn't matter if they get rid of the algae.  It will all have to be redone. This is what happens when you award no-bid contracts to your buddies. Oh, the algae is worse than ever now.

The National Park Service awarded the $1.7 million contract to what has turned out to be the ironically named Greenwater Services, bypassing the competitive bidding process normally required for federal work. The New York Times reported the company is led by Republican donor and Mar-a-Lago neighbor John J. Cafaro, whom Trump once called a "fantastic man."

It is too easy to commit fraud.  A woman, "administrator" for a home care outfit, created a false profile for her son and used it to bill Medicaid for personal care services that were never provided.  She also conspired with a guardian of two minor Medicaid beneficiaries, approving fraudulent time sheets.  The woman paid the guardian kickbacks.

The woman ows $74,579.88 in restitution.  A pittance compared with the millions and billions we read about, but think about all the similar fraud carried out everywhere, what it takes to catch them, go through the courts, meanwhile care isn't available to someone who needs it.

Candy

The largest fraud ever committed against Medicare and Medicaid was committed by the guy who is the current Republican Senator from Florida, Rick Scott.   The amount he defrauded the government for was likely over a billion dollars.  Republicans don't give a rat's ass about Medicare and Medicaid fraud, as they elected the biggest Medicare and Medicaid fraudster of all time as Senator from Florida, well after he got caught and after his company had to pay back 1.7 billion dollars.

Republicans consistently reward fraud. Just look at Scott and Trump himself.  And Scott got off "scott" free after he got caught committing this fraud. All he had to agree to was to remove himself as CEO, his wife was put in his place, and he got a $300 million golden parachute from the company for forcing them to pay the government $1.7 billion.  Remember that the next time Republicans boo-hoo about fraud. It certainly makes the incident you described above seem like small potatoes. The more fraud you commit, the further you can go in the Republican Party.

Or, as seen last Presidential election, you can be the DemocRAT vice presidential candidate.

Here is how much the obama gang spent

The Obama administration spent approximately $34 million on a major renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. The renovation, carried out between roughly 2010 and 2012, was a two-year reconstruction project aimed at addressing long-standing issues such as stagnant water, leaks; factually.com

Obama didnt give a no-bid contract to one of his campaign donors for the reflecting pool.     Trump did.   And the Trump-pool-guy repairs didnt make it through one month before failing.

So Tom - since you're such a fierce advocate of fighting fraud and corruption....where does your nose land on that dynamic?

Obama did it correctly. The major renovations took over a year and were done by contractors who knew what they were doing.

In contrast, Trump hired a campaign donor buddy who worked on the Pool for a few days, and his repairs are already failing.

That's what happens when Trump and the Trump gang  choose grift over legitimacy.

Stupid Tom.

After 10 years & $34m the pool had to be completely redone since the issues of leaks, cracks, chipped paint and algae were never solved.

But somehow that was a good deal.

From the people who brought us no speed rail in Ca at a cost of $100b

You're not going to ever get rid of the algae unless you continuously treat the pool with chemicals.  I think  we all learned that this week.

But what does that have to do with Trump's no-bid contract to one of his friends and donors?     This is your big chance to show everyone what a huge anti-corruption sleuth you are, Tom.

pj - that's easy. Obama spent $34m & had to have it redone.

President Trump spent $14m; a savings of $20m

Basic math eludes liberals.
