Oh, Tom you couldn't be more wrong. Cities are stuck with the funds their state government give them. The state also writes the criminal codes

Mark is wrong.

Cities like NY & chicago have DA's who have said they will not prosecute certain felonies & downgrade them to misdeamoners, if they are charged at all. Minors who commit felonies get sent to family court. They ignore the state laws.    Gascon is reviewing all death sentences.  Another NYC example is the bodega case where the DA charged a man defending himself with 2nd degree murder, while letting the woman who stabbed him go free.  The Bronx DA chose to downgrade the charges & release the felon (who is on lifetime parole) who put an innocent man in the hospital with a coma.  These cases happen daily

There are numerous felons in NYC who have 40+ arrests & are still walking the streets.

You are confusing prosecutorial discretion with budgetary matters and what laws are actually on the books.

Say for example a red state passes a budget that says:

30 million for war on pot smokers

20 million dollars for the enforcement of forced birth laws

10 million for prosecuting librarians for having LGBQ books in the library
20 million to install cameras in classrooms to make sure teachers don't illegally cover historical events that make white snowflake kids uncomfortable.
half a  million to process rape kits

100 thousand to enforce gun laws

250 thousand for mental health programs for the homeless

While a prosecutor could use his discretion to not enforce the war on pot smokers or forced birth laws he or she couldn't spend more than half a million on processing rape kits. Once the allocated money is gone for a year it is gone.

Then you get into the creation of the laws themselves:

For example, a red state government keeps passing laws lowering the bar for gun ownership so more guns flow into that state's cities increasing the homicide rate.

I'll give you a real-life example of how funding plays out in over-represented rural communities.

There is a small town in the county I live in. It was a booming agricultural hub up until the late 1970s.  At one time the town had a full-service grocery store, four gas stations, two restaurants, three taverns, a hardware store and various other small-town businesses.  There are currently no open private businesses in the town and the population has dwindled to 800 people. Over the last five years, they got a new library, a new fire department building, new sidewalks throughout town, a new medical clinic and a new sewage treatment plant and sewer lines throughout town.  They also got the infrastructure for high-speed internet. All of this was funded by the state government to serve 800 people. Nothing is bringing this town back as there are no jobs and the town is out in the middle of nowhere surrounded by huge farms. The farmers are big political donors and they wanted amenities in the small town closest to them so they got them.

Those “huge” farms also pay a lot of property taxes!

I'll bet that most, if not all of those farmers sit around the table every morning at the local coffee shop and bitch endlessly about all that gol-durn LIBBURUL SPENDIN'.

My favorite example is eastern Washington and Idaho. Spokane is fairly liberal; Idaho is, well...Nazis. So Idaho not only has a horrible healthcare system; its officials violently resisted covid restrictions, mask mandates, and vaccine distribution. So when their hospitals were overwhelmed with covid patients, they sent them all to...Spokane!

The cost, which the state of Washingon was forced to eat, was over 300 million dollars. So once again, the smart people subsidized the irresponsible idiot conservitard goobers.

No, I'm trying to understand your point.  You were the one whining about them giving away their tax money.

Define "thriving" Kevin?  Low crime?  Good education system?  Low murder rates?  Low Property taxes for their residents?

Somehow, I doubt that the property taxes they pay are remotely close to the amount needed to fund all those swank amenities. Farmland is assessed at a much lower rate than residential property. Plus, the county, not the town, would be the assessing entity.

In terms of cost/benefit, this sounds ridiculous. But who cares--it was other people's money. How liberal of them! Tax and spend! OOOOOOO!

Obviously, "thriving" is subjective, but I'd define a city as such if it was succeeding economically and its citizens had a good quality of life.

I took the elevated trade red line to the White Sox game on Sunday.  After the game at about 4:30pm, I exited the same station to walk the 0.7 miles back to my friend's Old Town apartment.  While walking north on Clark Street, a half a dozen motorcycles sped by me at about 60 mph, with one pulling a wheelie.  I've been to Chicago hundreds of times, and I've never seen such an event.  I suspect that these punks know that if caught, they will not be charged or they will get a far lesser charge than in past years.

Chicago's weak and lenient prosecution policies are leading to a more dangerous and violent city.

Since MP is to dishonest to fact check here are the facts

Cities like NY & chicago have DA's who have said they will not prosecute certain felonies & downgrade them to misdeamoners, if they are charged at all.

The facts from his own memo

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has vowed not to prosecute some violent crimes and downgrade felonies like armed robberies to the misdemeanor petit larceny if there isn't a 'genuine threat', even if a weapon is involved   Police are regularly assaulted & nothing is done

https://nypost.com/2022/07/26/16-year-old-cop-basher-shows-just-how-broken-nyc-justice-is/

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón has decided not to file felony charges against Isaiah Lee, the man who assaulted comedian Dave Chappelle on stage at the Hollywood Bowl on May 3rd

Another example

Woods tried to stab the Asian victim in the neck. The victim’s hand was sliced as he tried to protect himself. Yet, because of Gascón’s policies, felony charges requested by LAPD were rejected, and the case was referred to the city attorney for misdemeanor charges. Only after Mr. Lee was murdered did the DA reclaim the case and file felony charges for the first knife attack by Mr. Woods.

The Claim

Minors who commit felonies get sent to family court.

The facts

Bragg according to the memo intends to limit underage defendants in adult courts.

The claim

Gascon is reviewing all death sentences.

Fact

Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon is committed to reducing that number, seeking to resentence at least 15 death row inmates to life without parole. There are 215 inmates on California's death row sentenced to death from L.A. County. Fox News has obtained a list of 65 of those cases currently undergoing Gascon's sentencing review.

The claim

Another NYC example is the bodega case where the DA charged a man defending himself with 2nd degree murder, while letting the woman who stabbed him go free.

The fact

Jose Alba, 61, had been charged with second-degree murder in the killing Austin Simon, 35, on the night of July 1. Surveillance video of their confrontation shows Simon came behind the bodega counter and shoved Alba, who then grabbed a knife and stabbed Simon multiple times.

Simon's girlfriend then took a knife from her purse and stabbed Alba, the complaint states. She is not currently facing charges, according to a spokesperson for the prosecutor's office.

The claim

The Bronx DA chose to downgrade the charges & release the felon (who is on lifetime parole) who put an innocent man in the hospital with a coma.

The fact

A convicted sex offender who allegedly cold-cocked a man on a Bronx street — leaving him in a coma with brain injuries — was freed without bail Thursday after getting his attempted-murder charges reduced in the unprovoked attack.

The claim

These cases happen daily There are numerous felons in NYC who have 40+ arrests & are still walking the streets.

This is to long to summarize, so if MP is not to lazy here is the story

And one more thing, PJ, Cabrini-Green was not in Old Town but instead further SW.  PJ tells us about a literally 30 year old movie which showed Cabrini-Green.  Th was another Liberal idea that was a total hell hole.  I've told this very friend of mine and his little brother from the Big Brother's program.  Damari, now 37, lived in Carbrini-Green.  It closed in 1995.  I've been to the place, and the brothers made it known that they didn't like a white men on their turf.

That's the best that PJ can come up with?  A government run slum lord property which isn't even in Old Town, and it was closed 27 years ago.

Oh my.

Its the same neighborhood...and Cabrini Green is closer to the river/North Street than your friend's house.   So I have no idea what you are talking about.   Sun rises.   ....and what universe have you lived in that Cabrini-Green has been desirable to live in at any time in the last 40 years?  At its worst it was a crack-head neighborhood....at its best its hgh crime.    And thats been true forever and has nothing to do with BLM.

Which brings us back to your original point and how far you've moved the goal posts from that both in terms of geography and your gripe.     Oriignally you said your friends neighborhood was categorically unsafe  because of mobs opf BLM protestors that routinely attacked white people...and you've backpeddled that to saying you saw closed restaurants a mile and half away from your friends house because of the pandemic.

And the fact that you voluntarily made a point of visiting a place you believed to be unsafe shows that you dont believe your own bullshit either.        Did you get a chance to visit Oak Street Beach or can we officailly put that fictional narrative to rest?
