Trump dooms Texas

Some would certainly say so.

I remember when Democrats said they would get Texas because Republicans were crazy enough to make Ted Cruz their nominee.

Lesson learned:     No right wing nut is crazy enough to lose in Texas.

The silver lining is Republicans will now have to pump a ton of money into a state where they were expecting a cake walk. This takes away money for them to spend on competitive races.  And who knows since there is such a huge dissatisfaction with Trump, maybe he will pull it off.

Mass suicides. The MAGAs there are deathly afraid of those brown people invadng their fair land and opening up taco trucks. There will be nothing but despair and angst.

I agree that Talarico would do well, but a good job is not what the Texas Republicans want. They want strict fealty to the MAGA ideology, and of course, Trump.

But here's the thing. There are more Republican than Democrat voters in Texas, but that only counts if everyone shows up. Republicans there are fed up with Trump, just like everywhere else, so while I wouldn't expect them to vote for Talarico, I expect them to stay home rather than vote for Paxton. Even they realize that he's a batshit crazy Trump-licking lunatic. That brand isn't selling right now.

Uh, Davey Dog...you predict the future all the time, so if that's "iodicy," I guess that makes you an "iodit."

I don't think anyone who has a sliver of common decency would say so. You're the least delusional person here.

Of course, Miller doesn't clear the common decency hurdle.

The Texas Republipig powers that be are freaking out because rather than Cornyn, who would probably win fairly easily, they have a batshit crazy Trump-loving fascist who will run his campaign on negativity and fear. Talarico will have him for lunch. Whether that is enough for him to win remains to be seen, but it's looking good right now.

I think that Texas is turning purple because the Hipanic voters who, kind of inexplicably, went Trump in 2024 finally realize how much he and his base hate hate hate them and want them exterminated. Talarico has already struck a chord with them.

I think that's probably a big part of it.

I think another part of why it's going more purple is the current administration's immigration policy but not only among Hispanics.

Texas as conservative of a reputation as it has, has always been pretty supportive and tolerant of immigration and pretty multicultural in that way.

One of the big industries that has always hired people to work without any care of their race or nationality is cattle ranches. And there sure are a heck of a lot of those in Texas.

For a long time the conservative position was much more tolerant of immigrants and immigrant workers.

George W Bush was in favor of increased immigration, Ronald Reagan had his amnesty program etc.

I think a combination of the economy and immigration policy has hurt a lot of farms and ranches pretty hard.
