Hence the fact that people like me didn’t think we were in the “worst recovery ever”. But people like you did. And Tom railed about in on a daily basis.
So the lesson learned is 2% GDP growth is either “awesome” or “the worst” depending on who is in the White House. But then there’s the matter of the deficit. Conservatives cried bloody murder when the Obama administration was reducing the deficit.....and then took a vacation when Trump more than doubled it.
weird how that works, huh?
PJ, the economy was horrible under Obama. His policies frightened business and discouraged investment. Trump his created a business tax and regulatory environment which encourages business investment within the US.
I agree that our budget deficits were horrible under Obama and are horrible under Trump. I would like to see us cut Federal spending by 10%, and then freeze spending for the foreseeable future. I wish that Trump had the power to do what past Indiana governor Mitch Daniels did when he eliminated the state deficit by cutting Indiana government spending equally across the board. He then encouraged Dems and Republicans to move the leftover money around as they saw fit. Since Daniels’ 2005 tax cuts, Indiana has been enjoying a budget surplus. It should be noted that Mitch cut government employee jobs by 18% during his tenure as governor, and we managed quite nicely, which differed from the disaster predictions made by the great majority of Democrats within Indiana. It should further be noted that since Daniels became the president of Purdue University, he as frozen tuition for 7 years, while decreasing costs for room, board, books, etc., by about 5%. As expected, Liberals predicted disaster, while reality has the just the opposite. The number of Purdue students has increase, while the quality of student has improved. Private research dollars directed to Purdue has surged under Daniels. Spending on employee salaries have increased as one would have expected prior to Mitch’s arrival, and spending on physical improvements has surged under Daniels. My point being, government wastes much money. We can cut tons and tons of government spending, and then watch great things happen.
