When is the US in an economic recession?

Anyone whose place of employment was shuttered or scaled back by order of their state due to the pandemic.

And since I know you will respond to that with something about "liberals" we can use deep red Indiana as one example where restaurants, bars, hotels, airlines, schools, sporting events, concerts, conventions, and offices had to adjust staffing for state laws and lack of business from nobody travelling.

SO if Boilerman thinks we would be in a better place  by sending all those people to the breadlines instead of suffering a few years of inflation then he is entitled to.   Many Trump voters feel the same way....and just like Boilerman they only started feeling that way once Trump left office.      Now they say only checks written by Democrats add to the money supply.   I invite everyone else to point and laugh

Breadlines?  Stupid much?  By January of 21 the econonmy was recovering nicely.  Unemployment had gone from 14.7% at the height of the shutdown to 6.5% AND WAS TRENDING in a perfect V as the slow to reopen blue states realized they couldn't stay closed for business forever as we rolled out the vaccine.

Economists (like Democrats Larry Summers and Jason Furman) estimated there was a 50 billion dollar shortfall per month in demand and warned that the $150 billion a month stimulus from the partisan 2 trillion dollar American Recovery Act would lead to devistating inflation.  To add insult to injury, the Biden team's green energy cult began it's efforts to end fossil fuels the day Joe took office....leading to crushing energy costs for Americans.

Now, after providing 10 different phony excuses for inflation you try to tell us the choice was really between breadlines and out of control inflation?  You tell us Americans need to buck up and accept their declining real wages because 'at least you have a job'?  Bullshit.

The real choice was between blindly implementing an inflationary big spending and 'green' agenda and continuing on a path of reasonable growth with stable prices.  Notice how I didn't say no spending was justified.  You tried to paint the false choice of spend big or spend nothing.  Unfortunately Democrats made the wrong choice to spend three times what was needed.....even though warned of the likely results.  Americans have been suffering a declining standard of living because of it.

Next you'll tell us that's a good thing.  And if it's a hard landing because we have to crash the economy to wring out inflation, you'll cheer that on too and claim that's what Republicans wanted.  You can't make this shit up....but thanks for trying....It gives me a good laugh.

And as for Boilerman's original post of Democrats changing the definition of a recession....it's not surprising.

They tell us there are now 52 genders.

They can't define a woman.

They've redefined infrastructure and Jim Crow and Court Packing and Bipartisan.

Let's hope they aren't redefining stagflation or worse...depression next.

It's pretty much in conservitard DNA to bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch. Charles is a tiresome example. Yeah, everything isn't all roses and rainbows, Yeah, our gang would have, with the benefit of hindsight of course, done so much better. And naturally...let's take a look at the current situation: everything is shit and nothing that anyone says is actually good really counts! So let's all whine whine whine whine whine.

And while we're turning the crank on the propaganda mill, let's be sure to blame the current administration for things they have absolutely no control over, like the Ukraine war, pandemic-related supply problems in China, and yes, children, GLOBAL inflation. Dumbass bullshit-peddling conservitard fucks.

So why all the lies and half-truths? Simple: the RepubliQ wants to convince us that it's all the fault of them gosh-durn DEMMURKATS and all we have to do to make everything happy fun sunshine again is elect their asses come November. Then, all of our problems will magically go away. They won't say how--they've always been a little light on specifics, such as Trump's "I alone can fix it"--but the details don't matter, when the "base" votes on faith anyway.

Biden spilled the milk and Libs now want to tell us he's doing such a great job cleaning up his own mess.  In the meantime his stupid policy is causing hundreds of millions of Americans pain.

yeah, our gang would have, with the benefit of hindsight of course, done so much better.

Your own economists said the biden plan was wrong & kevin is essentially saying we screwed up but vote for us anyway so we can screw up some more

Hell, there were even plenty of Democrats saying that Sleepy needed to stop throwing fuel on the fire.  I suspect I that a younger and coherent Biden would have pulled back.  Camala and the AOC's of the world have zero comprehesion of such issues.

Sorry - I had my eyes open in January 2021 when all the restaurants, hotels, schools, offices, and entetainment venues were all still closed or only operating at limited capacity.      I choose to remember history accurately instead of rewriting it to fit some low-IQ political narrative.

Oh, and your Larry SUmmers lecture again?  He also blames the Jan 6 crowd for inflation...and he also says we need to massively raise taxes to reign in inflation.       I'm sure you'rte on board since you're such a big Larry Summers disciple, right?

All the economists were warning about inflation  from day one when the first checks were sent out under Trump.   But politcal hacks like you rewrite history to fit your BS politics.     You're in the right party.

And nevermind COVID - the FED has been propping up the economy since the financial crisis of 2008 with historically low interest rates, Quantitaive easing, and other asset buy ups.   Thats all reversing now which anyone who support a market based economy thinks is a good thing.    If Charles wants the government to continue to prop up the economy we can go back to the same FED policies that propped it up under Trump.

Larry SUmmers doesnt want that which I'm sure puts Charles in a real bind.

PJ's argument is that we were drowning, so biden threw us an anchor 18 months later.

Stupid Tommie-poo, using typical stupid Tommie-poo thinking, listens only to the economists who sharply criticize Biden's pandemic relief initiatives--and ignores those economists who say the opposite, that the relief was necessary. But then, he has a history of only believing the stuff that meshes with his preconceived ideas. We know that stupid Tommie-poo hates hates hates hates hates Biden. Therefore, he listens only to those economists who have been the most critical of him.

I'm a bit more sophisticated than stupid Tommie-poo. I've read much more extensively than he has, and there is in fact no consensus about what the "proper" amount of the stimulus should have been. In fact, it's extremely rare for economists to agree on anything.

Also...those flinging chimp-shit now act as if everyone should have had a crystal ball last year and seen the Ukraine war coming, the persistence of covid, etc. etc. etc. Yeah, yeah, hindsight is indeed 20-20. And of course we'll never actually experience the massive unemployment and devastating recession that would have happened if there had been much less pandemic relief available. Which leaves plenty of empty air for the armchair quarterbacks of the internet to bleat and bleat and bleat.

Stupid Tommie-poo, and the rest of his kind.

That was also the argument of all the white-trash MAGA zealots who gladly embraced the checks they got while also jumping on the BOilerman band-wagon to complain about their impact.    Speaking of which, has anyone heard from David MIller lately?

The giveaways were stupid when Trump did it, and far more stupid when Biden did it.  But Biden did much more.........gasoline on the fire, that is.

I never got a white-trash check.
