2014***ObamaCare***2014

Its true that most people don't require every aspect of coverage that comes with their plan. Women don't need boner pills. Men don't need prenatal vitamins. Young people don't need coverage for Allzheimer's. And People with no arms don't need coverage for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Insurance companies never customized their plans to each and every specific customer. They would have to create 10,000 plans. That's why they didn't do it before Obamacare and that's why they don't do it now.

What they have done is rid the system of its most egregious forms of discrimination....and DOn Diego should be happy it works that way. Left to their own devices insurance companies would have absolutely no financially sound reason to insure a man of Don Diego's age and admitted level of wellness. I'm glad the government forces their hand. I want Don Diego to be with us for many years to come.

For the record DonDiego never mentioned vaginas.

Why not? I think they are worth mentioning

You can own a car without having insurance. You only need insurance if you register it.
I'd like to not have to pay for fire insurance. I keep my home tidy, don't smoke, and don't leave burning candles about. But the damn government socialized fire protection and so now I have to pay for the fire department I don't want.

I'd like to not have to pay for police protection. I have a security system, a loud dog, and a moat filled with crocodiles. But the damn government socialized police protection and so now I have to pay for the police department I don't want.

I'd like to not have to pay for public education. I don't have any kids, I don't need skilled employees, and my political beliefs rely on an electorate that's really dumb. But the damn government socialized public education so now I have to pay for the schools I don't want.

I'd like to not have to pay for the Coast Guard. I don't live near a coast, driftwood frightens me, and I think those sexy lifeguards with their skimpy red swimsuits and rescue tubes do all that's really needed. But the damn government socialized guarding the coast and so now I have to pay for a Coast Guard I don't want.

I'd like to not have to pay for restaurant health inspections. I'm never invited anywhere, I only eat jerky (which no restaurants ever serve, for some reason), and since I lack both shoes and a shirt I can't get served anyhow. But the damn government socialized restaurant health inspections so now I have to pay for restaurant health inspectors I don't want.

I'd like to not have to pay for NASA. I don't like Tang, I find space suits unflattering, and the whole thing offends my religious belief that the earth is flat. But the damn government socialized space exploration so now I have to pay for a NASA I don't want.

I’d also like to not have to pay for street sweepers, sewage treatment plants, M1 Abrams battle tanks, air traffic controllers, nuclear waste repositories, or that blinky light on top of the Washington Monument that speaks to me at night, but I’m guessing you figured that out by now.
Chilly do you mind if I print and frame this post. You just summed up my feelings perfectly. People conveniently overlook the fact that since the first income tax was collected we have been paying for things we don't want, need or believe in but others do want and need these things. It is the price we pay for living in a civilized society.

Hell for that matter as a liberal democrat I had to help pay for the RNC because it was held in my home town. Although the Clint Eastwood bit was priceless.

Have at it.
Chilcoot would be offering an excellent defense of Obamacare, . . . IF:
__The Federal Government had set up an exchange through which DonDiego is mandated to buy commercial firefighter services.
AND IF:
__The Federal Government had set up an exchange through which DonDiego is mandated to buy commercial police services.
AND IF:
__The Federal Government had set up an exchange through which DonDiego is mandated to purchase commercial education services.
AND IF:
__The Federal Government had set up an exchange through which DonDiego is mandated to purchase commercial coastal defense and emergency services.
AND IF:
__The Federal Government had set up an exchange through which DonDiego is mandated to purchase commercial restaurant inspection services.
AND IF:
__The Federal Government had set up an exchange through which DonDiego is mandated to purchase commercial space exploration services.
AND IF:
__The Federal Government had set up an exchange through which DonDiego is mandated to purchase commercial street sweeper services, and sewage treatment services, and armored cavalry services, and air traffic control services, and nuclear waste disposal services, and aircraft warning lights.

But the Federal Government hasn't.
So Chilcoot's argument is inapplicable to the topic of this thread.

Nonetheless, DonDiego appreciates Chilcoot expressing himself.
DonDiego recommends Chilcoot initiate a thread advocating the adoption of total Federal Socialism of every aspect of human behavior in the United States in a thread so designated, . . . or maybe even restrict it to just medical services.
DonDiego also recommends Chilcoot address the logic behind the Government assuming control of providing medical services and banning competition under the false pretense that medical services are a natural monopoly.
And DonDiego calls attention to common historical precedents in such matters, that when the Government provides everything Totalitarian Socialism becomes ever so much easier; but he recognizes this would not support an argument for Socialized Medicine, so Chilcoot should not mention it in his thread.

[DonDiego recognizes many, . . . most?, . . . all?, . . . folks who espouse Liberalism would prefer Socialist Government. He even suspects if/when the goat-rope which is Obamacare fails, such adherents will immediately propose total socialization of medical care, . . . or perhaps not immediately, but after a brief pause so it doesn't look like that was the plan all along.]

Yes, by establishing an exchange wherein citizens can choose the best health care policy for their needs and budgets, Obamacare is a terrific advancement in consumer choice.

Unlike those other programs, which provide the citizen no choice, and no say on price, they just have to pay taxes, like it or not.

Obamacare: the conservative, market-driven way to provide a social good.
