I remember Smokey Yunick from what seems like a past life.

There were those that I grew up with that I consider true "hot rodders". Some of them fairly worshiped the Smokey "team". Others thought he was nothing more than a cheat and con artist. (I think he was kicked out of NASCAR) He was obviously very smart and a good mechanic but most of his claims could not be independently verified or even repeated.

A close correlation could be made to Tesla. I bet there are some on this very forum who believe everything that Tesla ever tried to sell was absolutely true.

Tesla was a genius of genius proportions. I'll put more faith in Tesla than Smokey Yunick.
What snidely said, Tesla was a genius and way ahead of his time.

This was all without computer control or direct injection but used a carburetor with his other special parts! This technology is being seriously looked at again.

Okay Madd Dogg, why has this technology not been exploited by liberals..........since the patent (if there is one), expired some 15 years ago?

Yes, Tesla was very smart. He was also a narcissist bordering on sociopathy. He also made huge unsubstantiated claims about many of his "discoveries" and inventions. He bilked many people and the government out of large amounts of money. In the end he was no more than a very smart con man. If he had not been so desperate to be right and to be know as the best and greatest we most likely would have been treated to a faster and better development of technology. Yes, Tesla was a genius but just like Smokey Yunick he wanted more than his genius could earn him so he resorted to grandiose claims, cheating and lying.

Weather manipulators, trans-continental radio transmitters, radio controlled devices, earth destroyers, electrical brain enhancers, etc. As well as views on eugenics and a master race of humans. Some of which were genius. Some ideas worked, some didn't, but almost all were sold and paid for before they were proven.

My point is that even very smart people can be less than they seem. One great and fantastic accomplishment (or even several) does not mean that everything a person does is equally great.
Meanwhile, . . . this IS a Las Vegas Forum ! ! !

Nikola Tesla developed a passion for (and became very proficient at) billiards, chess and card-playing, sometimes spending more than 48 hours in a stretch at a gaming table.
[So much for the Las Vegas connection.]

Tesla never married, claiming that his chastity was very helpful to his scientific abilities. [See photograph of his companion below.]

In middle age, Tesla became a close friend of Mark Twain.
